I have 98 Omega 2.5 V6 with auto gearbox. Sometimes, in city traffic, I experience problems in gearbox. Generally, I guess it happens when shifting from 1st to 2nd, or from 2nd to 3rd gear. When I relaease the brakes at the trafic lights, she moves and after depressing the accelerator normally, shifts as it should be in general. But, sometimes, engine revs till around 3000 RPM and shifts suddenly and then "automatic gearbox" warning comes on. when it happens, no auto shift and car becomes like dead. To move her, you should depress accelerator almost all the way down. After switching off the engine, it clears and does not come on for couple of days. It only happens when the gearbox is hot enough and during stop and go traffic, not on highway driving. Could it be solenoid thingy or anything else? Help please...

first off, i'd check the ATF level is right. Should be up level with the sump plug, on a level surface, engine running :y

Yeah! I had it checked ten days ago and it was OK. No leakage as well.

If you've checked the level then next step would be to re-new the filter and change the fluid.
It may-be worth seeing what the car thinks is wrong by getting the fault codes read.
Can you 'paper clip' the gear box e.c.u.?

Nope

I'd better have the filter changed and then go to the fault codes. As far as I review forums, I do not know if we can paperclip the autobox e.c.u. Is that correct?

as robg has said you cannot paper clip gearbox codes, you will need a suitable code reader

Hmmm. Thanks for the comments, have a great weekend to all.
By the way, I drove 500 km yesterday in city traffic and highway without getting any warning. It seems everything is OK for now... :D :y
