I have a CDR2006 in my Omega and there is an intermittent fault - it cuts out every few minutes, and then cuts back in again. I have tried a different head unit but with teh same problem so think it must be somewhere else.
I think I read somewhere on the forum that there is a separate amplifier in the circuit - did I imagine this?
If there is then where is it located as it seems to be a common link that may be where the fault is....

Only Elites came with the seperate Bose amp as standard. To check, in the boot, right hand little cubby hole, see if there is an amp in there.

What cuts out? Audio? or Power?
Tried wiggling the voloume button?
Tried re-seating it in the cage?
-
Its the audio that cuts out. The main display still shows the station tuned into. It cuts out on tape, cd and radio.

Hmmm, sounds like amp protecting itself. Wonder if a speaker is on its last legs :-/

I am watching this with interest as I have a 96 Elite with a SC 804 CD which has the same problem. Started out as an intermittent fault but now with no audio. Is the amplifier under the parcel shelf for the aerial only or is it audio?

You may have a philips amp just in front of the spare well - have a gander there
-
Does it work on really quiet volume and then cut out as audio increased?
That would indeed be a sign of a speaker on its last legs.
Also worth disconnecting speakers in turn to see if audio is restored
:-/

I'm going to keep an eye on this as well...I have a 95 elite and the set up in mine is not the bose but all aftermarket stuff and mine is doing the same thing ??????????? has been for a few weeks now and i still have yet to cfind the cause ???????
-
I too will keep an eye on this,
How important is the cage the radio sit's in? As mine bends like anything.
Radio station’s work when they want to.
This I found to be the areal connection, if I hold it out, it works fine, fit home, nothing.

Thanks to all for the input.
First a correction - it is a CCR2006 (not CDR as I put).
There is no amp in the cubby hole or in front of the spare wheel, so unless there is something mounted under the car or inside the dashboard there probably isn't a Bose amp unit anywhere, so why would it say 'Bose' when switching on?
It cuts out whatever volume it is playinjg at, and doesn't matter if it starts low or not. It may be linked to bumps on the road, but has also cut out when parked.
Usually when it cuts back in it does so at the same volume but has on occasions come back on with full volume (which is scary if driving!).
I should have a chance to pull it out tomorrow (any suggestions how as it is very tight - I tried at the weekend with the usual pullers and it wouldn't budge) and look for external bad connections/breaks in the wiring. My logic says it won't be teh power lead as the display remains when it cuts out, so it must be transmitting a signal, which needs power - correct?
That leaves the aerial socket, as the speaker wires would not affect every speaker at once.
Would it be possible for a 'mute' signal to be cutting in (say for the phone, which isn't fitted)? Otherwise I guess it is the unit itself that is sick.

If not a bad connector at the rear of the head unit, try disconnecting each of the speakers in turn, as a short circuit speaker under load (very common) can put teh unit into protection and shut down the audio.
-
I have remove dthe unit and checked the connections into the cage and the radio unit and they all look OK. Put it back together and the fault remains - again sometimes it cuts in at full volume, somethimes at the original level.
I have not yet checked the wiring to the back of the cage (I assume I take the glove box out to access these, or am I better taking the cage out instead?).
To disconnect the speakers at the speaker end - how do the door trims come off? Is it easier to work at the head end instead?
Colin
-
Due to limited space behind the head unit, probably easier to pull the door cards off
-
Door card removal is covered very well here:-

it sounds like the volume control is on the way out especialy when you say it comes back on loud ? :-/

The common volume control fault is very easily diagnosed by wiggling the actual volume knob. The fault is caused by dry joints at the back of the switch itself.
One of the first things I suggested to try, but as it appears to have drawn a blank reply, we can only assume its more involved.

Sorry for the delay in responding - I have tried wiggling the volume control but it makes no difference. No crackling or any cutting out. In fact it feels OK.
If it is the switch rather than the pot then perhaps this won't necessarily caus ethe problem by wiggling it. Are the possible dry joints easy to access? I can easily re-solder them if they are just to make sure.

By wiggling the switch, you would know very quickly if you had a problem !!

OK - for all those watching and wondering about this problem - its all fixed.
Thanks eventually to Dave - I found one of the speaker leads had disconnected inside one of the back doors (who ever sits there?), and was rattling around, sometimes grounding on the door metalwork! So the amp must have been shutting down under overload as Dave suggested.
So if anyone has a similar problem - check the speakers and their wiring first!!
Thanks again Dave, well done.

I have a bit similar problem.
When starting with hot motor or when the car has heaten up by sun, the audio goes to on-off cycle. Music plays for 4 secons, then its silence for 12 seconds and the loop starts again. The strange bit is that sometimes the audio stays on when I start the engine about 3-4 times again. Sometimes even that woun't help.
By now I have suspected that a capacitor in the amplifier is the reason. As it drains out, the audio mutes (11 sec) and when it is charged up again the audio plays (4 sec) ant then looping. But I can't explain why it sometimes stays on when I crank the engine few times.
By reading this topic, I found another possible reason for my problem. But before I start to rip my car up I would appreciate if you could point me what and how to check.
Will I open all mu speakers up and check for loose connection? How can I get to an amplifier as it sits so hidden away at rear? What and Can I measure some components, earth, etc with multimeter?
I own a Opel Omega B Caravan 2001 2,5TD 96kw, NCDC2015 with Bose stereo
-
Sounds more like a loose plug at the rear of the stereo ?
:-/
-
I checked all the speakers (6) and found no bad connection. Of course I couldn't check the wireing inside the car, maybe that could be one reason.
-
I accidentally found that if I press CLEAR for 6 seconds and reset the system, the sound stays on and everything works OK. Finally :)
But can I damage something when I start to reset the radio more often, like daily basis? Because there is still a problem somewhere and the resetting just repairs the problem and doesn't eliminate it. Right??

Correct :'(
You need to fix the problem.
