Title: Double din stereo removal / Pioneer - Mid display
Post by: Jimbob on 13 August 2010, 20:50:07
After all the horror stories recently I feared the worst.....

Bought a set of keys, went for the slightly more expensive connects2 keys rather than the autoleads ones....

gingerly put them in the holes after removing the grub screws, gently pulled back.....and out slid the stereo, easy as pie, why arent more jobs that easy  ;D ;D ;D ;D

On testing of the old stereo I was putting in - Pioneer DH700BT I was a little disapointed in my 'comfort adaptor' which does the steering controls AND display output..

Displays phone no problem
Displays cd track info
Displays radio info, all as it always did....

Connect up my USB stick, and nothing, plays merrily away, stereo displays as it should, but the MID just says pioneer....
looks like they never coded the adaptor for the USB input  :'( :'( :'(

Ill email support, but bet I dont get anywhere, esp as Ive had it a few years

ive raised the display issue with Pioneer, Wonder if they will reply...or do anything.

By the age of the unit, I guess not.

It does have the ability for firmware updates via bluetooth, so there is a little hope (ive done one before for better phone compatability)

Yes...

Ill be suprised to get a reply
and shocked to get a fix.  ;D

Its hardly a showstopper, just a nicety.
wish i had tried the USB input 2 years ago, 'may' have had more hope then.

Even so, Im happy to have gone 'medialess' and have a 16 gig USB stick in a cubbyhole, even if i do 'just' have 1 display instead of 2.

I was finding the size of a CD to be a bit limiting, so nice to have passed that barrier.

Do what I do, put in some real bongo bongo music - its all sounds the same, so if you stick it on disc repeat, you never know. It all sounds the same anyway.

Does Bongo Bongo music sound better than Fiddle-ee-dee music then?

 ;D ;D

God knows, I have to turn it down before it gives me a bloody headache.  Must be my age.

Heh Heh........

MIGHT have been easy to get out, you just wait until you have to get it all back in again.................

(reminds me of the old monkey and bung joke......)

hmmmmm

This stereo can directly drive a 2 ohm sub with no need for an amp...

Wonder what i would need to do to link a bose estate sub into the system, as that would slot nicely into the rear cubby hole,

would it need separate power too?

hmmmmmmm

Some of the Pioneers could indeed run a  2 Ohm sub, but usually at the expense of the rear channels. Seem to recall that the powr for the sub was not that great, so may be worth trying on the BOSE sub ?

Power would not be needed though, as you would need to wire the pioneer directly across the speaker voice coils, not through any amp.

Better off with a small amp, and a small speaker mounted into the same hole as the sub, and correctly run off the Pioneer RCA terminals

Cheers, probably not a route Ill go down at all to be honest, just an interesting idea.

Guess I would probably get better results just swapping the speakers for something better, but in reality I prob wont get round to doing that, always something more urgent to do..

real food for thought though  :y

from Pioneer :

We can confirm that the display adapter does not support the USB input's playback on the DEH-P700BT

My response :

Thanks, at least I know it is not faulty.

Would it be possible to release new firmware enabling this feature, it seems a strange oversight given the same file read from a cd displays the info.

I know the answer, but gotta try  ;D

This is something that would be more hardware than firmware related and for this reason would not be supported on the product which is within its original specification.

which I dont buy for one second but there you go.  Least I know I've tried.   A polite 'break off' I beleive  ;D ;D ;D
