Title: Variable Speed Wipers
Post by: Simon72 on 14 September 2010, 22:05:22
Right Question About Facelift (03) Omega 2.2dti CD model

I noticed today on another Omega (CDX) parked next to me that his wiper stalk had a small rotary switch on it to vary the intermitant speed.

QUESTION.

Is it just a matter of getting hold of a stalk and fitting it to my CD model?
If NOT what else do I need to get and where will I have to fit the other things.

I have searched the forum and only found comments about Pre-facelift / VW learning wipers and rain sensative models.

Cheers (Also if it is just a stalk where do I get it from or has anyone got one spare)

Deffo agree with the 99 relay, takes all of two minutes to fit, that includes unlocking the car and opening and closing the bonnet.

When your wipers are on 'Intermittent' (1 click upwards) you can vary the frequency of the wipe from short gap to long gap between wipes with that wheel.

The VW fix is a cheap option, but isn't really useful as rain doesnt fall at a constant rate, and vehicle spray isn't constant either.  Adjusting a scroll wheel is far easier than setting/resetting the wipe delay with the VW mod.

GM went a step backwards with the last of the Omegas when they removed the variable rate intermittent wipe. Maybe they hoped that potential buyers would opt for the auto wipers ..............  :-/  ;)   ;)

Cheers Jimbob,
I have just checked mine  [ Elite ] & it is slightly different layout, I have the lower orange relay but have 3 fuses next to this, where your 99 is I have a yellow relay with an Orange with this & a 50amp fuse next to a 40amp fuse, I have no other relays after these.

yup, different models will have different bits depending on options fitted,

The 99 is normally a tall yellow one and will be your wiper relay :y

i would say th "99" VW relay is the best option for ease of fitting.

(got it off ebay for £12.50)

Works a treat for me.
