				Hi folks,

I have an Omega 2.5 CDX on a W plate. Recently the D2S right halogen headlight went (or at least I thought it did). So I bought a new bulb and put it in and it still didn't work so I checked the fuse and it was blown.

Next I changed the fuse and put the old bulb back in and it blew the fuse. OK so it seems the old bulb is faulty and its blowing the fuse. So I put in a new bulb and a new fuse but this time the light comes on for a split second then goes off, the fuse does not blow. I can turn it on any number of times and the max the bulb will stay on is about 2 seconds. I even tried yet another new bulb and get the same symptoms.

What could be causing these bizzare symptoms?

 Many thanks,
 Derek

Most likely the ballast pack then :(

Thanks a lot, I've just googled what a ballast pack is :)

Does anyone have a procedure for changing it?

 Thanks again,
 Derek

				Don't you mean Xenon?

Don't you mean Xenon? Getting a sense of Deju Vu (deja moo?) here.

Xenon is one of the halogen gases.........

 [edit]Bugger, xenon is a noble gas, not a halogen[/edit]

Sorry, yes I mean Xenon. Not sure how noble it is, its a pain in the neck for me :)

I think I have to get the headlight out to the ballast pack but I cant even figure out how to do that.

 Any advice would be appreciated.

				Guys,

With some brute force I got the headlight out and swapped the ballast pack. This time when I turned on the lights the fuse blew.

So new bulb, new fuse, new ballast pack

 What now?

 Many thanks,
 Derek

had a drink, bear with me. put an amp meter on the bulb connection and turn on. should be nothing. if you get something then voltage/ amps is disappearing somewhere.?

edit (feed before the ballast pack)

Thanks tapper, there is a voltage and also I notice that the sheathing is worn around the feed wire so copper is exposed. Its getting beyond my skills now so I've booked an auto electrician to have a look at it on Monday.

Thanks to all for your help.
