....in a 2013, might play a cd in the nav slot if the car interior is warm enough, but it won't read the the nav disc which the 2015 in my car will play quite happily, so it's not the disc.
Ime laser cleaners are a waist of time, is that worth a try or is it new laser time, if one can be found which I doubt from what I've read on here :'(

Laser cleaners I have used in the past consist of a CD with a tiny brush embedded into the surface which just brushes any dust of the laser lens. A waste of time.
I you are feeling adventurous you can try to access the lens and clean it properly using a cotton bud dipped in isopropyl alcohol.
I don't know how easy it is to access the laser on the 2013, so I would only attempt this if you have nothing to lose by doing it. :y

Urinating in a force 9, my friend.
Have a chinwag with VXLV6, he did find a supply of nav lasers a while back, not sure if still available.
-
Might be worth a look inside, in case it's something obvious. I agree with Theboy, though. Somewhat high on the beaufort scale, so make sure you're pointing downwind. :y

What about swapping some bits over from a known working but no code unit with a knackerd CDC from a Vectra C or a supposedly working de-coded one with knackerd face connections and jammed CDC from an Omega?
If only there was one or two available?? ;D ;)

Thought as much. Iirc vxlv6 pinched a good laser from a unit with fubar changer carriage. :'(
Although it's a high miles car, 137k, the unit itself is in good nic. Bezel clicks nicely no damage to the rubber on them, fascia still fits nice no marks. Just wondering why the nav laser would fail first, I would have thought if cdr's where used they would go in the changer instead. :-/
And as said not many of these units around, working or otherwise. :'(

I think between the two of us, vxlv6 and I have cornered the market ;D

When it spits out the disc, how warm is the disc??
The 2015 i use won't 'read' the Nav disc until the unit is warm. When it chucks the disc out it feels really really cold, progessively it gets warmer and finally it works
In the summer it takes 2 or 3 mins, but this time of year it takes 15-20 mins of the heater on in the car before it works. I'm assuming its the cold causing condensation on the laser.
I know in mine its slightly closer to the mid dash vents than in an Omega so it might warm up a little quicker
So before you strip it down i would double check it is infact 'warm enough' :)

Drove from Reading to Bristol a couple of weeks ago, no joy on the whole trip. :'(
It does read more and more of the disc as it warms up, but never gets passed the "software read will take a few more minutes" stage, or whatever it says. Can hear the laser mech moving back and forth, it's trying, but never quite makes it.
When playing CD's it misses sections of the track.

In what respect? Music breaking up at disk-rotation rate? Or jumping and skipping?

Er, first one I think :-/

Right, pop over with it, Chris, and we'll have a look inside and see if one of those matches. :y

They do, the one listed for the 2013 fits.

I wonder if these 'new' units are more cd-r tolerant? or whether they are nearer to original spec.

I had the same thought.. only one way to tell, I suppose! ;)

and it involves an oscilloscope I reckon :y

Or buy two and play CD-Rs for a while and see if the first one dies ;D

I doubt they are, one of the key differences on CDR compatible setups (that I have found) is that the optical eye needs a setup which has an active threshold measurement for the Rx optical eye.....this is not laser dependent :y

...but if these work that great news, thankyou :y

could one of the newer ones fit? or parts be pinched from one? ....no? thought not. :-/
well unless we ask ...?
:)

Interesting website; if you're felling flush you can buy the whole top cd unit

Aw yeah, put a DVD 90 in a 2015 head unit, would that work? No? Dam! :'(
-
On the underside of the laser itself is usually a small sticky label with a KSxxxx number, or something similar
Worth looking at the number and googling that - somebody may still have some pattern parts or equivalents
;)
