Title: Just had my Cam Cover gaskets done on my 2.5 V6
Post by: SHARPEY on 21 February 2008, 19:52:56
A bloke I know has done the work for me and charged me £200 including all parts & labour. Is this a fair price to pay for the job ?

I am sure he would not rip me off as he did a lot of work on my T5 when I crashed at the Nurburg Ring and still hasn't billed me so feel I am safe.

Any pointers on price would be greatly appreciated.

Sharpey.

Seems a bit expensive tbh, genuine gaskets are only about £60 if I remember right...and doesnt take that much to get to the gaskets, plenum off thats about it...

Sorry Chris forgot to mention that he has done the gaskets, all of the o rings and the spark plugs. He showed me the bill for £140 for the bits and charged me £60 for the job. Does that help ?

I wouldn't think that was a bad price to pay a garage mate. Vauxhall wanted £298 when I phoned out of curiousity :o

Although he paid well over the odds for the bits......did he fit complete new covers?

Christ, no need to change the covers, no wonder the bits were pricey!

Sorry my mistake. No he didn't fit covers just the gaskets and o rings. Think I might get the Bahnstormers card for future stuff and get the bits myself.

Most of the bits are not on trade club, i've just bought mine for this weekend, the gaskets are £27.45 each, Plenium 'O' rings £9.25 for 6, the inlet gasket things were £3ish for the 8, black gunk was £3ish, all plus the dreaded VAT, so if you add in to that plugs the cost of parts isnt that over inflated TBH.
