Title: car alarm remote works, but doesnt disable alarm.
Post by: dawchiks on 07 December 2010, 17:28:34
So, my batteries for the remote died, I changed them, the remote seems to be working ( light is flashing when I press a button). But it doesn't disable the alarm. It has no effect on the car's alarm. My friend told me to calibrate it. But I dont know how. I have a "Ranger" alarm, at least it's written on my remote. '00 X20XEV.
anyone?

Do you mean it will not unlock the car? Ignition on and then press the lock/unlock (I can never remember which - but there are only 2 buttons  ;)) button on the fob, the doors should lock & then immediately unlock. Your central locking should now be syncronised  :y :y

Which could very well be your fault.

Why can't you? Flat battery? If just the fob, you can open manually and quickly get the key in the ignition while the alarm sounds.  ;)

Tried to start the car for 15 mins? It was the car's battery I was suggesting was flat. Is it turning over/spinning fast enough? Maybe a jump start? Other than that there may be fault codes showing if you do a 'paper clip test'  :-/  :-/

not to start, to disable the alarm with the key fob. is there a fuse to take out to disable the alarm? or something like that? Cuz I really need the car today.

if your fob is unlocking the car than it proves that A) the fob is working and B) its the correct one for the central locking unit.(alarm ecu incorporated)

the immobiliser is a seperate unit so should not be affected by the fob's presence, just needs the correct chip in the key.

Im wondering if its the power sounder you are hearing rather than the alarm horn?

if so its faulty and needs to be removed.

there is lots of info on the forum relating to the power sounder. best to a quick search.

 ;)

perhaps the usual fault in the keyfobs has happened, the contact from the battery holder breaks off the circuit board, and sometimes the battery is disconnected, having the same effect as removing it (reseting the fob) hence the need to program every time.

Martin Imber on here repairs them, send him a pm and he will explain it to you.

sorry for double post, but I somehow managed to sync remote with car alarm, then after 5 minutes of trying car unblocked and I was driving away for some gas. And at the gas station I cant unblock it again. so, my car is still there. And the question is - does the car alarm unit has batteries of its own? If yes, where I can find the alarm box? It's not under the seat :D Is it under hood?

the alarm 'power sounder' does have its own back up batteries. The power sounder lives under the plastic scuttle on OUR driver's side, I would assume it's under the right hand side even on a left hand drive car.
When the remote locking fails, there is no reason why you can't unlock the car manually with the key in the door, the alarm will go off but when you turn the key in the ignition it will stop and you will be able to start your car.  :y

the alarm will not stop the car from starting. The immobiliser is there to prevent the car from starting and they are two separate things.

as I said - i have tested it, I can't start the car while alarm is armed. I didnt just make it up, I have tried to start my car while alarm is armed. It just doesnt work like that for my car. I have to turn off alarm and then I can start the car. While alarm is armed if the car starts(sometimes it does) it just will stall after 1-2 seconds and there's nothing I can do about it.
