Post by: pembsomega on 18 January 2011, 20:52:34
hi fellas,

my nearside hid low beam has stopped working,

for a few nights it went a funny red/purple colour and now its gone completely. from that does it suggest its the bulb or the balast? if its not clear i suppose i can always sway bulbs and see just hoping to save time out it the cold

thansk for your advice in advance

In my experience a xenon bulb emitting a pink/red etc light means it's on it's way out. It sounds most likely the bulb has failed. I've had the same before, it's best to change xenon bulbs in a pair.

You only need the one, but it could be a different shade to the OE one. Shame it's the nearside behind the battery. I used ebay, but it appears I was one of the lucky ones that didn't get a dodgy one.  There is a very good chart somewhere on here, I will try to find it.

d2s is the fittment

all the same power, its the colour that changes
you want 4300k for factory colour
5000k for optimum colour
6000k is whiter with a blueish tinge, but as you hit here and above, actual illumination drops off
