Title: MELTING FOG LAMPS FUSE
Post by: VOYAGER on 13 January 2011, 14:14:12
Hello Everyone,
Could you help me with the fuse melting because of the fog lights on for 15 minutes or more? It is fuse number 16 (20A yellow colored) and dedicated to fog lights only. Actually, I have not checked the lamps if they have correct wattage or the complete harness in terms of short circuit.
Could it be relay problem or what? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance.

Check the looms from the lights back into the engine bay, they have a habit of chaffing behind the bumper ;)

also check that someone hasn't fitted 100watt bulbs as an upgrade thereby doubling the electrical load

Agreed. On the other hand, it could just be that the fuse had a bit of resistance due to fatigue or the connection between it and the fuse box was not great, leading to resistance and the inevitable build up of heat.

Measure the current through the fuse when fog lights are on. Should be no more than 10 amps.

Ahh, yes, they come in a kit with a backwards-facing baseball cap, a personal IQ tester with a single digit display on it, and a complete inability to drive anywhere, in any weather, without front fog lights on. >:(

Thank you all very much for the ideas. I'd better start measuring the current first.

Actually, I have bought my Omega from a junkyard owner here in Ankara, capital city of Turkey. At the junkyard in Turkey, if you are not aware of the brand new part prices, you can find yourselves paying doubled, at least the same price as a new part while you are buying a donated part. So, within this context; noone should have replaced the originals with the 100w ones. We should just pray for the fog lights be in their places!!!  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif] >:( :-[And it is too far to think a Burberry or Mark & Spencer thingy for those guys as well...

Thank you, Cem.
I confess that I was shocked when I saw a Turkish name mentioned here and the thousands of posts as well. Hopefully, we can meet somewhere in Ankara in a shortest time.

Nowadays, since I am home late in the evening, I will have no chance to check the bulbs before the weekend but, I do not think that they have 100W bulbs or so because the brightness does not seem like that.

I will let you all know about the progress on this issue...

Thanks, Cem. That helps an awful lot with the support for the Turkish SMS character set I've got to support in one of our products. :y
