Hi,
I'm looking for a switched live that is live with ignition off and dead with ignition on.
Anyone able to pin point the wire i need and its location?

Not sure such a wire exists, and I do not see why any such wire would ever be needed in a car.
If you want one, you would need to use a relay on an ignition live to switch the voltages - easily done, just watch you don`t end up draining a battery with the load you are using !!!
Curious - what are you trying to wire up ?

if its for a fake alarm LED or something, cant you use a perm live and switched live for the circuit?
thus when switched live goes dead it completes the circuit

That works perfectly for an LED, but nothing that pulls any current - hence the question as to what was intended ?

Thats exactly what i'm doing, there seems to be 2 holes for led's in the steering wheel shroud so i thought i'd utilise one of them for an led as there currently isn't one for the alarm.
Can you explain how your theory would work for me? As previous makes of cars I've had in the past have had a switched live and its been easy to do.

one of those would have been the runlock switch, the other probably an indicator led for said runlock :-/
Might it be easier to fit a shroud without the holes instead? :P

Connect the +Ve side of your 12V led to a permenent live, and the -Ve side of your 12V led to a switched live.
When the ignition is on, both wires are live and the led will be off.
When the ignition is off, there is enough leakage on the switched live for the led to start to illuminate.
Works well if you have a 12V flashing red led, as looks like an aftermarket security. Don`t be tempted to use silly colours, as it will just look like a random led has been placed there.

standard plod equipment. basically works like this:
car goes out on a shout; pulls up lights blazing, sirens wailing. pc plod jumps out to deal with incident. as he/she/it gets out, they flick a switch and pull the key. engine keeps running which stops the battery from being caned. (40amp light bars etc etc ::)). pikey scrote/ spotty yoof sees plod car with engine running and thinks xmas has just arrived. gets into car and goes to drive off and engine cuts out. game over. :'(
only four ways to kill engine if runlock activated:
1. press brake pedal.
2. press clutch pedal.
3. release handbrake.
4. use kill switch under bonnet on bulkhead.
once finished plod jumps back in, puts key in ignition, turns to pos 2 and off they go. :y
readily available for approx £80 plus fitting. :y
