Hi im going to be fitting the sat nav unit into my 98 elite in the next week or so and ive read the how to and it mentions cutting into wires as ive not got the clip :'( anyone know which wires it is ti cut into and maybe have a pic to make it easier :y
-
Hi,
On a -98 Elite it shouls plug straight in - you wont need to cut any wires at all.
What do you mean by "Clip"?
-
on the guide theres a plu/clip that the main loom off the wiring goes into behind the passenger side kick panel i dont appear to have it! :-/
-
it should be there, tucked up in the loom. was there on my mv6 when i fitted satnav.
-
ill have a good look later when ive finished putting my gearbox in thanks :y
-
yes, it will be tucked away under the pass side A piller trim cover. It might be tucked behind the main look or taped to it. I've done two now and they were both there.
The thing to note is that if the sat nav isn't fitted that the (unused) connector needs to be secure to stop it hitting the trim panel and making a noise, it's pretty cramped in there so hene the need to tidy it up.

The prewiring to plug the Satnav loom in to is only on MY98.5 and MY99 cars. Early 1998 cars (built in 1997) will not have this.

thanks lincs robert ive only had a quick look ill have a good later i thought it was goin to be noticable but i should have realised it would be tucked away after all it is an omega ::)
-
its a 98 r reg think it was registered feb 98 so i may be out of look on that score then :'(
-
also how do you find out if its a my98.5 etc car?
-
I think you will be ok as the 2.5 Elite was only introduced in the '98 Model Year (MY). One of the ones I've done before was on an R reg MV6 - which was a '98 MY so you should be ok.
Even if you arent then I have a length of loom hacked from another car, so it is possible to splice one in - if you know what you are doing that is! :y

The fact you cant find the satnav plug ;)

Take the reg and chassis numbers to your local Vx dealer and ask the parts guy nicely. He should be able to look it up easily enough.

I think my MV6 was registered in Feb 98, its a MY98, but built in 1997, and didn't have the plug (does now, though I've long since binned the CARiN I fitted)

My MV6 did, that was an R reg built in '97.

Luck of the draw - it was added to (non factory fit CARiN) cars partway through the MY98. A 98.5 car pretty much guarantees the loom. A very early MY98 (non 3.0l Elite) will likely not have it.

And, of course the MV6 main loom is the same as an Elite I think as all MV6's were 3.0s at that time.

pm sent the boy :y, i hope it is there because ive got a feeling its going to be a right pain if not :(
-
Given yours was manufactured 3 weeks after mine, I wouldn't be surprised if yours didn't have it.
Its not the end of the world, from memory, you need:
12V - plenty about (but pop in inline fuse)
12V ign - plenty about (again, inline fuse it)
0V - a convenient stud (M8 from memory) above passenger kick panel
Lights
Reverse lights
Speed pulse
All these later 3 are easily grabbed from the loom in the passenger kick panel.
-
with the last 3 would it just be a case of locating the right colour wire and joining in as it were :y

Almost - you'd need to trace it back to the plug to ensure you have the right one, as there may be a couple of wires the same colour
