my MV6 (which I'm planning on returning to the road this week) is without a stereo.
Can anyone recommend one for me, that I can just slot in, plug in, and play.
preferably to interface with the steering wheel controls.
It's to fit a '98 pre f/l if that makes any difference.
I'd like it to play MP3s from CDRs (or even DVDRs) and an aux port so I can plug in my MP3 player (3.5mm jack).

Amstrad 650XLS is top notch :y

or, the Beta MAX 450GLS :)

I said DVD not video ::)

Well, how about the Harsen Feffer 260lx? :)

Beyond the standard fit ones, none will be simply plugging it in. Non Vx ones will need adapter boxes for steering wheel and display...
-
is there a vauxhall CD player that will suit my needs then?
I don't need anything fancy - if I can't get one that will take CDRs, just one with an aux in.
main thing is the steering wheel controls.
as you can tell, I know bugger all about car audio :-[

would these work?
or how much would an "adaptor" set me back?
cos I have a CD player already, if I can interface it to the controls

if I got this, I could buy any compatible head unit [1] ?
[1] can a head unit be "standalone", or does it always needs a disc changer or other box to make the radio work?

SC804 is too old, and doesn't do what you want.
All Sony car junk isn't worth the effort
-
what's the lowest price alternative you would recommend?
-
From a mumble junior member with recent experience of a pref/l, CDX for me has to be Pioneer
I would recommend a Pioneer DEH Unit - tons on Ebay from £20+
Superb Power Amp - 4 x 50W Moffset (digital like sound quality) even on the basic versions, mid-range units DEH-110MP upwards play MP3's WMA and most have front 'Aux' jack socket for MP3's and iPods I use it all the time.
Top notch are the DEH xxxx BT models (I had a DEH70BT) as they have built in hands free for the moby!
There are also some nice all black models too.
Works well with the OEM Speakers with a great overall sound quality, radio reception excellent too.
Should conect easily enough, Dave from DND has been very helpful, you will need an adaptor and patch lead - DaveDND can advise 8-)
PC99-X06 and a PC99-SON :-? - but get Dave to confirm.
Hope it helps
-
thanks very much.
pioner DEH ****BT it is.
:y

We each have Pioneers, old models now but
DEH P55BT
DEH P700BT
so both full format playing cd players, with bluetooth
also use both with the 'comfort adaptor' for steering controls and displaying info to the MID.
not cheap now though! esp as it doesnt display anything useful when using USB as the source.

Any advice on what this is, be useful if I could get mine to us the display also?
Cheers!

yes...
http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product.php?partno=CADPI150
but they are now about twice the price I paid!
displays radio station details
phone is in use
displays cd track number and timer for Cd's and MP3's on CD
just displays pioneer when using the usb input >:(
-
Thanks for that - bit pricy though - more than I paid for my DEH55BT ::) food for thought :y
