To do it properly is a hell of a job, fitting the levelling system ECU and associated loom.

The headlight washers are easy enough to fit, if you have a donor for all the parts.

don't be misled by the "official opinion", it's actually quite simple, involving a small change to the wiring. I'm surprised there isn't a guide for it somewhere

washers and self-levelling are not a legal requirement

As I said on t`other site Shane. ::)
You need the plug for the ballast unit + a short piece of loom. Should be 1 x yellow & 1 x brown. Splice these into the existing wires going to dipped beam. You also need to replace the HID level motors with yours so you still have levelling control on your headlight switch wheel

Department for Transport's take on it...

Given the amount of cretins out there who are either stupid or just arrogantly misalign their lights, I'm all for a big clampdown ;)

I'm all for a clamp-down, too. Not all of the "kits" are any good, and there's definitely not much of an incentive to make sure its safe afterwards.

but to make it illegal on the type-approval issue alone would be very, very bad indeed

In the case of retrofitting to Omega, use Omega HID lenses, and that hoop is jumped through, leaving just the glare issues and beam alignment to sort.

Washers are dead easy to retrofit, so worth doing. Its the beam levelling thats harder (assuming you don't have self levelling suspension).

With HIDs becoming more popular, mainly due to aftermarket kits and that factory HID cars are now appearing at scrapyards, the number of poorly adjusted ones is increasing dramtically. Its one of my current top 3 pet hates (along with electronic gonks stuck all over the bloody windscreen in the field of view)

I'm always amazed at the number of people I see (generally young women) who have their TomTom/etc on the screen directly infront of them.  :-?  :-?  :-?
