Title: Outside temperature 50 degrees ?

All of a sudden, the temaperature reading in the conputer console is reading about 50 degrees (it still changes a bit). I assume this means that the external sensor is wrong. Should I worry (apart from the climate control not working) - does this affect engine performance ?

My outside temp has been showing 65 degrees for at least a couple of years, but it doesn't affect the air con / climate control - they're nothing to do with each other. (2.5 pre and mini facelift versions only)

but they're connected on later facelift cars though.  ;) ;)

Thanks for the replies, It does affect the climate control - that's how I noticed in the first place.

Is it much of a job to change the sensor ? - can't immediately see it in Haynes. (But my Haynes is pre-facelift so mine is presumably different in that respect.

your sensor sits under the front lip of the bumper in the middle, but check the next connection back in the loom as it seems that this also gives problems.  ;) ;) Sensor just clips into the bumper & plugs into the loom ...... easy! :y

As stated - Facelift cars use this sensor, prefacelift - its consmetic.

2 mins tops, dead easy to change as per Andy.

and only about £6 from Vauxhall, and will be in stock.

Hi, I had similar high temp readings the first day above freezing last December. The glitch lasted for a few days then back to normal....still OK...mystery ???

Just had a similar experience on my 2000 2.0 16v 20XEV Engined CDX Auto.
I was told that the sensor 'did not' effect the Climate Control (Heating or Cooling)
Well I can confirm 100% it does! (well on my car it did)
Although mine is a 2000 Reg, it is 1999 spec....
I put in a new one after the temp reached 36 Degrees and climbing....
The Heater is now much better and the air con too  :P

I also think the car is running smoother, seems to be more economical  ::) probably a pure coincidence though  :y

All fine now - thanks everybody.

The sensor fits sort of below the washer bottle, right in the middle - easiest to find by feel. It clips in, and was a little nerve-wracking wiggling it out.
