Most cars have two plastic fingers on the back of the switch which poke into the steering column. A cam on the column pushes the finger out when you straighten up the steering. I'm guessing that one of the fingers has snapped off.

Should be a 20 minute job to fit a new switch Never had one fail on an Omega though so I might be wrong.....

As Andy says .. but be aware of dangers of NOT fixing it .. could potentially cause the steering to lock at some point if the broken bit gets stuck in the mechanism. Rare.. but not unknown occurance... and if it happens going around a sharpish bend ..........

I usually on my cars cut the tag off so is not self cancelling - on the basis I can put them on when I want and cancel when I want - not when it decides to ( obviously potential to leave on -- but how many cars do we see with indicators left on?)

Actually in the Beach Buggy club it is a real problem, as none of our cars have self cancelling indicators, the warning lights are too dim to see, and any beeps are overshadowed by the exhaust noise

It might be a problem in the English Riviera with a proliferation of randomly flashing Beach Buggies, but I can't remember the last time I even saw one on the road!  ::)  ;) ;) ;) ;) :y
