Hi All - just a speedy one as I haven't had time to run any tests yet. Got home last night after a weekend away and the wifes mig had been playing up - not starting losing power etc. Jump started it and took it for a spin and everything was great, full power, no warning lights for about 4-5 miles. Turned around to head back, put foot down a bit so engine was under load, battery light lit up, tc light was glowing (not fully on) and pressing the tc button had no effect. There was also a couple of the warning lights around the tc light that were also glowing but not fully on. Have got the check list sorted for tonight and will do the peddle test too, but assuming probably got one knackered alternator. Just preparing for the worst, whats the best alternator to go for/best place to buy, I read to avoid the 100amp ones. Thanks John

Meant to add - the steering got very heavy and the rev counter and speedo stopped working. When I switched off they were both frozen at about the 1500rpm mark.

Before doing the full checklist, check the battery clamp crimps... These often break down and give the same symptoms as a failing alternator. Biggest give away is that they will get very hot!
