When on radio or cd player the stereo intermittently "drops out" if it was just on cd I would say it is exactly like a scratched disc.
Any ideas?
TIA

Shorting speaker causing temp amp shutdown?
-
Thanks, how do I check for this my electrical knowledge is limited to say the least. :-[
-
anyone :(
-
Disconnect each of the speakers in turn and see if the problem stops
Thats about all you can do with an intermittant fault such as that when the speakers are suspect
-
that sounds a bit obvious, thanks will do. :-[
-
I disconnected the speakers each one in turn and made no difference.
When I had disconnected the last one I reconnected the one in the boot and It was still dropping out :'(
I forgot to mention it's a bose system if that makes any difference.
Any more ideas?

Yes, makes a big difference.
:-X
-
I suppose that means that it's a common issue and easy and cheap to fix ;D ;D
-
bump ;D
-
Now my fists of ham have struck again! I reconnected the speakers and I only seem to have the boot speaker, rear passenger and front driver working :(
Don't see what I've done wrong, please help.
-
Took speakers out again and refitted they're all working again now.
But there is something strange about the rear drivers side door speaker.
I had the radio on when I was reconnecting and when I offered it to the door it kept cutting out, with a bit of fiddling it is fitted and working ok.
What I don't understand is why it would do this the connections look clean and sound.
Any ideas? is it worth replacing this speaker? I don't think it's the cause of the "dropping out" as it was still dropping out on the other speakers when this one was disconnected.
Could it be the wiring for this speaker rather than the speaker itself?
-
Sounds a bit similar to the 2013 setup I have. Sound was dropping out intermittently, and then dropped out altogether.
I havent as yet got to the bottom of it (its no longer in a car) but if I do I will post up and let you know.
The only realistic option I have left is to try the H/U in another car to try to narrow it down - hopefully.
-
Can I just pop it into another car or does it need pairing or is it just coded? (really crap with electrics!)
-
Im probably worse. I tried it in my own car, but it isnt Bose equipped, so the fact that it didnt work didnt enlighten me very much.
If your doesnt have a seperate amp (as the 2013 does) you might have a better chance, but to be quite honest - I aint got a fackin clue what Im talking about on matters connected with electrickery. ::) ;D
-
It has a seperate amp.
Glad I'm not the only one who is electrically challenged :D
-
Im challenged on an extraordinarily wide range of subjects. :y ;D

More than likely shorting out on the door when you were refitting, consider yourself lucky you didn't take the amplifier out.
-
Could be the wires in the door where it hinges are damaged ?

don't think it could have shorted on the door i left the housing in place and just remove speaker (4 torx bolts)

would it be straight forward to try my head unit in another (bose equipped i assume) car to check if it's head unit or speakers?

Yes, you can plug it into another BOSE equipped car (you`ll need the code) but unlikley to be head unit that is at fault. Not common for Amp to go either.

After all my fannying about i've discovered today that the only thing that actually "drops out" is radio.
Cd and mp3 (via tape adapter) are fine.
Therefore I assume there is a poor connection on the aerial, before I take h/u out is there a common failure point?
-
Common faults
Centre pin in angled connector at rear of cage is prime suspect, as is a break in the cable centre core a few inches back from that.
Next is the connections from the aerial amp to the screen
Next would be dodgy connector in the kickwell - (not so common to fail that one)
-
finally solved it. It was the actual aerial mast that was snapped within the rubber flexible part (estate) so not visible. Cheers for the help.
