Some may remember that I was trying to diagnose an intermittent problem (which became "mittent") with the Bose system in the car I was breaking a few months ago.
The problem being,no sound from the system. It happened a couple of times and then became a permanent feature.
I finally plugged the HU into another car on Tuesday (thanks Twiglet) and there was no sound in that car either, which Im assuming means the problem is in the HU rather than loom/amp/speakers.
The display shows the disc as playing - ie track 3,etc with time elapsed constantly moving. Could this be the laser ? If not, is it worth sending away for diagnosis/repair. If so, where to send it ?
Advicewill be much appreciated, thanks.

Is it just the cd giving no sound? What about radio? Cd in nav slot?
Usually it spits the disc back out if it can't be read....? Or says so on screen.
Pins ok on the back of HU?
-
If the dispaly suggests the CD is playing, then its not laser.
What about radio? Satnav?
-
No sound from radio either.Didnt try the satnav for sound, but would assume it would be the same.So something inside headunit has gone wrong so it doesnt send sound signal to amp ?
Dont mind sending it off somewhere and paying a reasonable amount for diagnosis/ repair estimate etc. if anyone has any recommendations ?
I think pins at the back of unit are ok, but might have another look.

I know the amp chip in the back has a bad habit of popping itself. Its a TDA one, can't remember exact number.
-
That sounds like a promising lead.Could I possibly take it out and have it tested at work,or even just remove the cover andhave it tested ? :-/
-
Wouldn`t be the old chestnut of a dodgy volume control connection like the 2006`s tend to suffer from. Just a thought :-/
-
if it has the bose amp in the back could the connection block into the amp go loose or come off? :-/
-
Plugged it into a different car with a different amp and loom, so the problem is in the HU. :y
-
So, anyone know where or how I can get a diagnosis /estimate/repair for the head unit. :-/
-
I,ll take that as a no then. ;D
-
If I get time, I'll dig out a rear board, so at least you can confirm its the rear board. Assuming I have a spare (I know I have one with amp chip removed to fix another).
-
Now that would be useful. :y

I'm afraid we wont be able to test it on my breaker again now mate. The entire wiring loom has parted company with the car!! :-/
I guess you had better book that flight! ;) :-X

I noticed yesterday that my code reader has a section for infotainment system ::)...........might plug the HU back into my car and then see if the code reader comes up with anything. :-/

I wouldn't mind betting that it won't display anything useful, if its just the sound cutting out.
There likely will be codes, due to the fact its been in and out, and tested under different scenarios.
