Title: TC & ABS
Post by: 51M0N on 27 July 2011, 10:26:54
Since I got the car these have never worked. It doesn't really bother me as I like to drive without aids. However I do like things to work if they should..

I've checked the fuse for it and that's fine. however the dash bulbs don't illuminate and pressing the TC switch does nothing. Am I right in assuming the bulbs form part of the circuit and Perhaps try replacing/inserting these first?

I suspect they are permentlyy on and someone has therefore removed the bulb.

I would get the car on a good code reader and work out why and fix the problem

ABS lights not working is an MOT failure  :y

Should add, your car is the older 3 channel ABS system, which doesnt suffer the usual failure the later (98 on) systems are susceptible too

So is having no cats, But that's never been a problem ;)
iirc its only a fail if it illuminates and doesn't go out.
I'll try some bulbs anyway when i work out how to removed the clocks.

fair enough - tame tester..

but officially if ABS fitted (obvious) then the lights HAVE to work.

Guide in the maint section on removing clocks.

tc light -

light should be OFF by default
going to ON when you press the TC button to disable the system

I take it you mean it wont illuminate whatever you do?

Guess you need to get it on a decent code reader that will talk to the ABS ECU to see whats up.

I reckon if it was faulty, the light should be on, so my 1st instinct is the switch may be faulty.

or the tc bulb is blown.

Tried a bulb I knew worked for certain, its supposed to illuminate when off irrc. didnt do anything at all. looked at the switch wiring seems fine and pressed it etc.

Time for a plug in.  ::)

Hi all,

the auto transmission was removed by the previous owner of my car and put into a manual one. TC doesn't work , my questions are : was there any electric connection between the transmission and ABS/TC block needed to proper operation? Can I use TC with manual gearbox?

cheers  Laszlo

The engine, ABS and gearbox all chat to each other on a canbus. Not sure if the work you've done would stop TC working

51mon - that came across a bit strong. If it was a light hearted joke, please use a relevant smiley, as we have no body language or voice tone to go by in written text.
