Title: Santa Pod Meet
Post by: Marks DTM Calib on 02 October 2006, 08:55:45
I have added a stiky to the Meets/Gatherings section to cover this giving information on prices and ticket ordering.

Those who are coming along can you please add your name, if you are coming for the weekend/day and if camping what kit do you have.

Come on people, get those names down!!  :)

All Omegas need a good run every so often and a run to Poddington is as good an excuse as any!

And no wussy excuses from the Scottish brigade!  ;)

I also doubt it very much :-/ - knowing my luck something is bound to break!! As it's behaved itself for such a long time now I don't want to tempt fate ::)

.......but you never know 8-)

Its tempting but, the thought of being in a 1.7 ton barge automatic against a 500Bhp Corsa that weighs the same as a tea bag doesn't fill me with enthusiasm.

Yeah, A420 to Oxford is a bit of a drag, but only 20 - 30m, then A34, M40 one junction, A43 (picking me up on way through ;)) to Northampton, M1 down 1 jnc, A45 and you're about there.  A34/M40/A43/M1/A45 all nice fast roads....

Aren't we all Dave.

I plan to make an early start on the Sunday to get there about 9am and leave about 3pm.

I reckon, if I push my car, say take it up to 45mph, I should do it in about 3 hours.

Whereabouts are we all meeting once we arrive at Santa Pod? Haven't been there for donkeys years so don't remember the layout. Is there just one camping area? Also, would it be a good idea for all those going to post our mobile phone Nos. on this thread so we can make contact on arrival? Alternately, we could PM them to each other. Just a thought.

Rather than post mobiles publically, we need someone here to organise - we can all send mobile numbers to them, and they give theres in return.

Just a couple of last minute questions. Does anyone know what facilities they have at the Pod?
I know some are bringing food, BBQ's, beer etc. but do they have a snack bar, shop or bar on-site just in case of things we might forget. Also, am I correct in assuming they have washing facilities, fresh water and toilets in the camping area? :-?

Sorry if these questions have been asked before, but I couldn't find them ::)

I have a gas powered fridge, but I doubt it will cool down beer quick enough...

I have a large inflatable dustbin, that you fill up with water to chill drinks...

Who's gonna get the grub then?

I definately be there during summer provided it doesn't overlap with a holiday.

I'll get the bumper and spoiler painted by then!

I don't mind getting it if thats what everyone wants to do but I was thinking maybe it would be better if everyone brought what they actually wanted. The only reason I say this is because there might be some people who don't like certain food. My only other concern would be finding the room to store the food overnight as I'm planning to go to Sainsbury's tonight to get supplies and beer as I won't have time in the morning, and I'm a bit restricted on space in my fridge. I'm ok for supplying the BBQ, charcoal and firelighters.

What does everyone else think?

No probs - I'm now toying with the idea of bringing a gas BBQ if I can fit it in.......what am I saying, I've got an Omega estate!!! of course it'll fit :y Not sure if we'll get Marks half a pig on it though ;D
It will also mean that I can run the fridge from the gas bottle instead of draining my car battery :y
.....and before I get any wise cracks, the fridge runs on gas or electric :) Cold beers all round then :y :y :y

Me and Laidback just got back from Santa Pod. Met some rally nice people today. very hospitable and fiendly sorts. unfortunately, there were also some Omega owners too! ;D ;D

Seriously, had a great day, although the cold wind has really done my back in and I will be whinging for days now.

I think about 12 of us in the end. Some nice Omegas, one really clean one - Barry! and one lovely green colour I haven't seen before. There was the other end of the spectrum too with Jaimes Rover 200. But there is always one isn't there? ;D

Watched loads of muppets driving and riding really quickly. Several near misses. Then they brought out the Jet car near the end. Unreal. i have seen this car before and it still makes me wonder what kind of numpty would actually want to drive it ever? 0-272mph in a few seconds over the 1/4 mile to much applause, but mostly relief that he didn't crash it!

Anyway, a great day out and many thanks to those who turned up. Nice to put some faces to the names. Although it must be said that some thieveing bar steward tried to pinch marks headlamp washer! Can you believe some people?

I must say I had a great time at Santa Pod It was good to put names to faces. Mark DTM sorted a few problems on my engine and Jaime turned my airbag light out and reset my aircon, cheers guys. The only problem is me being t-total and a vegetarian, I was force fed bottled beer, burgers, egg and bacon.  ;)

What a great weekend at the Pod. :y Me and Greg were absolutely knackered when we got home yesterday afternoon and then I had to go and work last night (disco at the pub) which was the last thing I wanted to do. I think quite a few of us had some serious hangovers in the morning - we might not have looked too bad but I think a few heads were thumping, mine included (I'm blaming Elite Pete for mine) ;D I've got to say what a great bunch of genuinely friendly guys which made for a top weekend. 8-) I've got to say a big thanks to Laidback, Matchless and Ronnie McB for sorting out my vacuum pipes - now I can have warm feet again :) I don't quite know how matchless managed to feed the pipe through the bulkhead in such a limited space, but he did it with a bit of help from a drop of cooking oil :o

The only downside of the weekend was the effing idiots revving the nuts off their chavved up car and belting out drum and bass music at 4-5am in the morning >:( They were definitely on something other than alcohol and only got abusive when Bo Bo went over to tell them to shut up, and Bo Bo is a big bloke! Apart from that - top weekend :y

I'm sure a few stories are bound to pop up from time to time. By the way, can anyone remember what the hell we were talking and laughing about until 2am? ::) The beer seems to have obliterated part of my memory. ;D

No idea, but I suspect it was a load of old rubbish if past experiences are anything to go by ;) - they are the best kind of evenings, sat done with a beer, friendly people, good conversation, and talking 'dangle berries' until the early hours....  :y

Must be something to do with the hangovers when you arrived Sunday morning AA - don't think any of the Saturday night crowd could operate their camera's in the morning :-/ ;D
