I used a hacksaw on the join of the body needing to cut through about 4mm. Just need to source a battery supplier or alternative batteries.
This sounder is from the facelift model so not sure if a different battery set-up was used on the earlier models.

I have ordered a QJ35Q (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=28088) 7.2V / 1800mAh from Maplins, it's actually a rechargable pack from a remote control car. They have the standard Tamiya connectors (not sure if male or female though) once they arrive I'll get either of these (http://www.maplin.co.uk/Search.aspx?criteria=tamiya&source=15) to suit. I plan on extending a wire from the sounder and mounting the battery pack further back. This will also make replacement in the future a ot easier :y
