Evening all ;)
I took the car in for new tryes today fronts (had the rear done last month ) now what could go wrong :-/ Took it in the my uausl place only to be told they could not do them there and then tried to ask if I could book it in to be done as I wanted to wait while they did the job , no sorry you cant do that was the reply you will have to leave it with us I told him I did not want to do this and that the service was not up to standard not as politley as that though , I think I may be banned now ::)
Any way decided to pop over to Banbury to another branch , no problem we can do it now for you , they drove the car round and into the bay on to a two post lift with the swing out supports as I watched through the window they started to raise the front of the car thjen there was loads of shouting as the car kept going up the buttons on the lift had stuck and they could nt stop it going up eventualy they hit the main power and killed the lift with my car stuck at a 45 angle , I am not sure who was more shocked me or them :o I happen to be an electrician so offered to get the car down for them which i did much to everyones relief mainly mine :)

I have never really liked those types of lift since many years ago whilst in my 1st job as an apprentice Mechanic a young fitter put a Simca on the lift and was looking for a knocking noise on the suspension by yanking at it when it suddenly fell off on the front D/S and fortunately landed on a steel bench otherwise he'd have been crushed!!!

If that was mine, the best option for the garage at fault would be free tyres. Or else, someone would be looking for his P45 in the post after I had finished the phonecalls and letters....
Certainly would not have paid that price for them after the fustercluck getting the car in the air....

Mentioning the possibility of a call to the HSE might bring the price down a bit.

This reminds me a story I heard from a garage owner many years ago (he was the father of a close friend).
His garage specialised in American cars, and they were used to the heavy RWD beasts. At some point of time in the late 70' or early 80' the US car makers started making FWD cars in order to combat the smaller and economical Japanese imports. When they had the first such car in the garage for servicing, they put it on the lift and raised it. But the lift was a 2-post lift with 4 jacking points, and when the car was half-way up it gently toppled-over and fell forward on its nose, much to everyone's astonishment.....
