Brill!  :y
Great how-to; `already had a numpty Kwik-Fit fitter crack my metal housing (mercifully a scrap yard replacement unit rescued me) so this job is def. on my to-do list (after fitting cruise)  ;)

Only one query: the threaded-nipple (adaptor); is that a Vx part No or another supplier?

You can get the threaded part from Vx (not to expensive)

Does your CDx not have cruise control?

No cruise on my `99 CDX (oddly) :'(
I`ve bought a cruise-stalk from forum member Chris, but I`m still looking for a cruise-actuator to complete the job....please, anyone?

What do you use to tighten the adaptor? Suggested torque?
I'm going to do mine ASAP.

Been down to the Vx Dealer today and ordered the treaded nipple; `not a stock item there but `should have it in a day or two (£3.51 +VAT); `gonna pick up a couple of spin-on oil filters and a 3 for 4 pack of semi-synthetic oil when I go back to pick it up; then I`ll be sorted for all my summer cruisin`.  :y

At the parts counter, I mentioned the the reason I knew the P/N for the nipple was the 'How-to' on O.O.F: then the parts-manager instantly said "oh it`ll be on T.C terms then!"....Our reputation has travelled-far it seems!  ;)

Ow yes, I would start with 45Nm torque setting as thats what the housing attaches at and its the same thread etc...

I agree Mark, at least you can give the old filter and housing a good inspection to see if there are any forgien bodys in there that shouldn't be as this is a good indicator of engine wear or something starting to break down, just my opinion for what it's worth  ::)

Why????
They cost more, and take a little longer to change. :-/

Slaters at Colwyn Bay; `just right next to the West-bound A-55.....the parts-counter staff always seem approachable and helpful, and I don`t feel patronised (or 'unduly' overcharged).
Where I live (in the mountains of Southern Snowdonia) all the big-dealerships are a 45 mile round-trip away.  ::)

Passed it many times when we head out that way.

thought you were nearer this way than that.

With that distance, youve gotta stock up when you go!

Excellent how too - i actually used this conversion for the vectra v6 prior to the how too as i couldnt get the metal hosing off.

I do have a slight oil leak ( a drip) from housing/ filter since but i didnt use locking lotion.

Never mind the Vectras getting its sump off, due to low oil pressure, next week so no harm in re doing the filter and obviously an oil change too.

The StudLocks act like a  "glue".  Have a look at the following it'll make more sense.

Pay attention now, I'll be asking questions later ;D ;D ;D

RiteLok anaerobic adhesives are high performance, single component engineering adhesives, that cure in the absence of air and in the presence of metal parts. RiteLok anaerobic adhesives are frequently used in assembly by original equipment manufacturers, maintenance departments, upgrade and overhaul projects and throughout the automotive and engineering sector. RiteLok anaerobic adhesives are available in a wide range of strengths and viscosities. The RiteLok anaerobic adhesives range is used for threadlocking, retaining, sealing and gasketing.

T70 Studlocker eliminates double nutting and/or welding of critical assemblies. Using T70 Studlocker permits reduced casting thickness, and ultimate lightness, reduced assembly stress and eliminates cracked castings due to interference fit

Rocol X12-70 - Studlock
>< For high strength thread locking
>< For permanently locking mounting studs into pump housings, manifold assemblies, thread inserts and engine blocks
>< Use on all types of metal threaded fasteners
>< Only use on parts that will NOT require dismantling

And this is Loctites' version

Studlock, high strength threadlock and sealing adhesive permanent strength Loctite 270 type

       Grade      Studlock

Generic Type       High Strength

      Colour                                  Red
      Viscosity        (ASTM1084,1824)               400-600cP (medium)
      Fixture Time                   15-20 minutes
      Working Time                   2 hours
      Full Cure                                   24 hours
      Gap Filled                              0.1mm
      Specific Gravity                    1.1
      Flashpoint (TOC)                    >100°C
      Corrosivity (MIL-S-22473D)     None
      Toxicity                                   Low
Shelf Life (25°C)                     1 year (minimum)

                 Locking Torque Breakaway      25nm
      Prevail                                    35nm
      Service Temperature         50°C to +150°C
      Thermal Expansion                     8 x 10-5 mm/°C
      Hardness: ROCKWELL              M110
      Decomposition Temperature     252°C

as you can see, after 24hrs it would take 25nm to break the seal, after a longer period it would take upto 35nm.  When you put the filter on and nip it up, it tweaks the adaptor.  At the next oil change the filter will come off as it won't have "gone on" at 25-35nm.

Hope that makes sense  ;)

sorry it was a bit long
