Title: steering squeak
Post by: fiend61 on 24 September 2011, 09:37:41
hi all
have a problem that is driving me nuts  >:(
i have a squeak coming from somewhere in my steering system, the thing is that it only starts after about 150 miles or so, in other words when the engine is well warm, this squeak becomes louder and louder as you go on until it becomes very embarrising i.e in carparks where alot of steering is involved  :-[ the way to possible descibe the noise is a unoiled door hinge (hammer house of horror) which gets louder, the thing is when the car cools down it doesnt do it until (something) reachs a set temperature, or distance travelled or so many turns of the steering, elite pete had a look at it for me but as usual as soon as i got there could i get it to make the noise? no of course i couldnt  ::)
so pete couldnt even to begin to diagnose it,
i hope someone out there can throw some light on this ????? one thing pete did suggest is to change the pas oil incase that was breaking down which i am in process of doing but any other suggestions on what to look for would be good  ;)

dose sound like the p.s pump is getting hot have you check to see if it is hot when the noise starts. may just need the fluid changing, do you know when it was last done.
