Title: exhaust cat
Post by: flyer 0712 on 24 September 2011, 16:10:01
hi  here i go again......i have a year 2000     2.2 omega and have been informed that i need a new cat for the exhaust.    because it was registered before march 2000 i can fit a non conforming cat which are cheaper than those registered after march.....i think the later one is the same fitment and i would like to know if that is correct and if i was to fit the later one would it make more sense and would i get more value for money in the long run..i  just do not understand the difference between them.....any advice please folks...thanks ray...

Who informed you need a new cat? They very don't fail unless struck by something, I bet its your exhaust flexi thats gone. Costs just £15 for one, cut the old flexi off and have replacement welded in  :y

it showed up as hc too  high...i have changed both lambda sensors and it made no difference,so the garage said that the only other thing it can be is the cat....it looks pretty old,i have had the car 3years and all the receipts that i had from the previous owner for the 4 years he had it he never changed it. so that makes it at least 7 years old.....i have been told that they do clog up or disintergrate inside .i also have put cat clean through it to no avail and they reckon it needs changing...i just dont know.....ray.

Are the replacement sensors genuine? Cat on my old road trip Senator worked just fine.  ;) - They really, should never need replacing unless physically damaged by something, or sensors causing over-fuelling.

I'd look at getting some genuine sensors then drive it like you stole it to clean it all up.

If you do need to replace the cat, make sure again its genuine, check out for cars being broken here.

Pattern cats are very loud and just shite!
