Didn't think I would have another omega after my 2.0 CD started heading downhill... until I found this little beauty: 57k CDX with a full Vx service history, and the highest Spec Omega I've had. Good for a few more years! Alloys have got to go though; the tyres are good but they are only 205s when they should be 255s. Thanks to Gooseman I've got a set of 5 spokes on the way. And I think given the black paint that the grill may have to be swapped for a mesh or Irmscher type. Could also really do with an Elite tailgate spoiler to finish it off... anyone got one? ???

looking good and i agree about the wheels :y
-
Looks very nice. Some CD wheels would be a good value alternative.
-
Very nice, wish my car could be as shiny as that :)
-
very nice but the veccy wheels just look wrong :y
-
Yup, junk those nasty VeccyB alloys!
-
Looks stuning mate, but pls change that wheels ;D
-
I'm changin em, I'm changing em!!!!! :o
Soon as Gooseman's put some new boots on his Elite alloys I'll have me five spokes!
-
nice motor....
just in case you're not clear on this
CHANGE THOSE BLOODY AWFUL WHEELS :y ;D
-
It looks good in the flesh as well :y .
Ordered my tyres for the MV6 wheels, so by the end of the next week you should have the better looking CD wheels off my car on yours. :y
Just need an Irmscher grill and tailgate spoiler now, though unfortunately someone's beaten you to my grill ::)
-
Cheers Gooseman!
The grill's hopefully arriving tomorrow by courier, and with me new wheelies it should be looking tip top next week. Mind you with the weather as it is the miggy's been lazing about on the drive while I've been spanking this across the county. The 3 mile journey to work is taking hours this week!! :D

-
Well you'll have to wait til the Spring now ... SORN tomorrow :(

Righty. New grill on ... really impressed with the quality and fit of this for a £25 purchase, and delivered within 24 hours.
The 'fruity' exhaust managed to survive just long enough to get me home when, on the driveway, the two halves of the flexi joint parted company.
I've read the stuff about pattern cats but I didn't have time to mess about with a repair or source a good second hand, so picked up a brand new one for £160 all in. I have to say that the quality is excellent - I've fitted a few after market exhaust components and they never line up where they are supposed to, but this one was perfect. Both lambdas came out without any nonsense either after a good soaking overnight. (Yes I know you are advised against that as well).
Having found all the brake pads pretty well shot I've replaced all of those today as well and I'm now getting round to the sunroof. I don't think there is anything wrong with the switch or the motor ... the problem appears to be wear in the joints for the lifting rods which raise the small wind deflector at the front of the opening causing it to open a few mm further than it should. This is creating resistance for the returning roof, which is fouling the wind deflector enough to cause the sensor to do the safety reverse. Hopefully a little bit of mechanical tweaking will take care of that.
Main problem at the moment is avoiding the sunburn! ;)
-
The cat doesn't look in too bad shape (apart from the two part flexi) so I'll look to getting this cleaned up and a new flexi joint welded in in due course. Handy to have a spare for the future.
Or for ebay :y
-
Forgot to mention the K&N air filter is in now too. I've never bought one of these before, but for £38 and a 50,000 lifespan I think it's worth it. The quality is really impressive and it comes with a couple of nice stickers which look good under the bonnet!
-
Just need me CD wheels now! ;)
Spangly new cat:

Hope thats not a pattern one.
Why did you not just replace the flexi?

Is it a panel or cone filter?
Also if the filter is oiled, you might want to buy a replacement MAF sensor and keep it handy :y
-
No, not a cone .. straightforward replacement for the original filter. And yes, the cat is a pattern, not an original, but as I said in the post, I needed a fast fix the same day. Now that I've got the old one off I'm going to get it repaired with a new flexi. Then I'll replace the new one when it self destructs :y

I'd still buy a replacement MAF Sensor, taken K&N Filters website:
"K&N air filters consist of four to six sheets of cotton gauze layered between two sheets of aluminum wire mesh. This media is then pleated and oiled to enhance its filtering capabilities and overall performance."
Oil will kill MAF.
Personally I would fit standard GM (at less than half cost of K&N)
With replacement flexi, make sure its welded correctly, even a small difference from original can cause problems on re-fitting :y

Well I'd be amazed if a massive international motorsport and vehicle parts company like K&N would be selling products that would destroy a MAF. Who knows. Maybe I'll have a MAF failure in the future - if I do I'll let everyone hear (and K&N) know about it. In the meantime, sometimes you just have to do stuff in life that might be a gamble. That's what makes it interesting. ;)

K&N also say their products give more BHP!

Have to agree with Clouseau Tunnie. I'm sure such a large respected manufacture has taken the MAF sensor issues into account. Especially as they're an American company, as I'm sure if this had come to light, then there would of been retail and motorsports customers lining up K&N's company car park with law suits by now ::) ;) .
Plus I have a spare genuine MAF in the shed (wrapped up), so Clouseau isn't going to have to go far to get a spare that is genuine and working okay ;D :y
-
I'm going on what I've seen here (countless posts of MAF issues relating to K&N oiled filters)
On basic engines which use little electronics, sure can achieve some gains. But with Omega, the MAF reads the amount of air entering the engine from the filter. If this gets contaminated with oil, it will get the wrong readings.
You really are better off with a standard filter given its price and size!
K&N may work in America where they get 200bhp from a 4.0V8 ;D

This 'shed' of yours sounds like Alladin's cave. I'm sure if you rummaged hard enough there'd be an Elite tailgate spoiler in there!!! ;D

There's one on the bay at the mo :y

Come on then..... where's the photos of the car with the CD wheels then? ;D
Remind me.... what was it you said when I brought over the wheels... I won't be putting them on yet, may as well get some use out of the veccy wheels and tyres... ::) . Yeah... that idea lasted long didn't it ;D :y
-
Ok, in response to the overwhelming condemnation of the Vectra alloys (including mine) here, for all you traditionalists, is what its should really look like! Just waiting for the 'eyebrows' to be delivered now! 8) Cheers Gooseman!!! :y

Wow awesome looking car. Thanks for sharing. :)
-
Yep, looking a lot better now and the wheels have come up a treat now you've cleaned and polished them up.
Dare I put a spanner in the works, may look pretty trick with slight tint of rear lens against the colour of the car ::) . You're other half would have probably hit me had I said that when I was there, ::) ;D
-
Much better ;D :y
-
yep have to say car looks a whole lot better with the correct wheels :y
-
Beautiful car wheels are great wheels (the CD ones that is) :y
-
Eyebrows ... Like 'em or loathe'em...

looks very nice now. those other wheels just didnt suit it. :y
-
Having seen this car in the flesh today so to speak it is in excellent condition and really looks the part. I personally think the eyebrows look good on this car along with the grill... :y
-
hate them personally, but thats just me. :)
-
what a lovely, lovely example. love the colour and how shiny and new looking she is and yes the CD wheels look great...................... hate the irnscher grill and ''eyebrows''. but each to his own
-
good match :y
-
Very nice motor.Looking at the eyebrows and grill they just gone straight onto my must have list, where did you get them?
-
There are several places on ebay selling the eyebrows, although the seller I got them from doesn't stock them anymore. I think I paid £11 the pair. They came in black gelcoat but I still painted them black sapphire.
The grill came from this place:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-B-99-CROSS-HATCH-BADGELESS-SPORT-GRILLE-/310262795407?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item483d1a8c8f#ht_2267wt_1051
I paid £25 for mine but they are now selling them at a ridiculous £14.99! And it's really a quality product :)
-
Really nice car. :D
-
I love black & estates - beautiful looking car Clouseau - is it Black Sapphire ?
-
Cheers for the heads up on the grill, now have one ordered. :y
-
its always surprising how much difference a set of wheels makes to a car the grille looks good too very nice :y
-
May have to look for a set of eyebrows for mine, not to obtrusive those. :y
-
one question i have.... how did you get your wood trim that shiny? lol... i've never been able to achieve this :(

Later wood trims (around 2001 onwards) in the facelift have a "gloss" effect, much more shiny! Looks better

Like the black sheen and its an Estate so the car gets my vote, but....................................................................the wheels must be replaced asap ! LOL
-
they have been???? see above.....
-
Er, yes ... they have been!
And for the next mod ... ebay bargain of the month £15 for an Irmscher tailgate spoiler!
The brake light LEDs are a bit dodgy so will be replaced with a fresh strip that cost less than £2 off the bay. Small bit of wear to fill (where it has rubbed the aerial) and a few coats of black sapphire and the job's a good 'un!
-
wow you're so lucky, great bargain mate :y
-
Had a bit of time off work in the past few days having had to work nights across Christmas :( so it's back to the tailgate spoiler and the tricky business of putting 4 holes in the tailgate! First I made a card template from the back of the spoiler then used this to mark the holes for the tailgate...
Then it was time for a deep breath and go for it! I started with the two end holes, which allowed the spoiler to sit flush before I committed myself to the location of the centre two. I couldn't get the spoiler to sit flush in the middle (it was just clearing the washer jet), but hopefully it would 'pull in' when the centre bolts were tightened.
Whilst enlarging the first of the holes inside the tailgate for the end bolts I made the decision to leave these unfastened - one of the studs was turning when it should have been fixed (would have been a nightmare to tighten) and after attaching the spoiler with the two centre bolts I am more than happy that these two bolts and Tiger Seal will be more than adequate to keep it stuck fast. Also saves cutting two large holes in the tailgate just to be able to get nuts on the ends of the outer studs. Got some nice blanking grommets to cover the access holes and I will remove the factory fitted centre stop light since my spoiler has one fitted.
After a few anxious moments before wielding the drill I'm very pleased with the final fit ... just needs painting now!
-
It should look good once it's all painted up, along with the Mv6 bumper ;)
Personally I would leave the original factory 3rd brake light in as well, it'll be different :y
Thanks for the help yesterday with the clearout :y
-
just read this thread all the way through, and I have to say that is one beautiful estate :y
I'm gonna get one of those grilles, and you've also helped me make my mind up about the headlight eyebrows, they look really mean on a black car 8)
Cant wait to get my black estate tomorrow now and start detailing it!! ;D

Go for it Claire ... last time I looked the grills were down to less than £15 ... need to take a stand against the 'eyebrow haters'! :y

have to be quick says only 1 left £15 plus £7.50 p&p :y
-
and i like the eyebrows imo :y
-
:y :y :y very nice like the eyebrows too :y :y
-
I'll order it next week when there's abit more dosh in Paypal - I'm looking at these eyebrows: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OPEL-OMEGA-B-CADILAC-CATERA-EYEBROWS-/190547312049?_trksid=p5197.m7&_trkparms=algo%3DLVI%26itu%3DUCI%26otn%3D5%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5264622619793166884#ht_2801wt_1399
are they like the ones you have? did you have to glue/tiger seal yours on? Also, I guess if you need to replace a broken headlight, then its bye-bye eyebrows..... ah well, cant be anyworse then the pink Fiat Punto I saw yesterday with massive great eyelashes........ ::)
But yes, lets start an "eyebrow appreciation society" group!! LOL :y
Claire
-
Different seller but essentially the same thing. Mine came in black gel coat but I wasn't happy with the finish and painted them in the proper black sapphire. Didn't need any trimming/fettling to fit and I just used a couple of lines of Tiger Seal and held them down in place with plenty of gaffa tape for a few hours. Oh and I also removed the rubber headlight surround as well as they fit under these at the back.
You don't need to remove the bumper though! I was doing a few jobs at the same time, but it shows the fitting of the eyebrow well enough.
If you were unlucky enough to crack a headlight they should come off with a knife slid underneath; no need to go nuts with the Tiger Seal. ;)
-
cool, well I might get some new lights for mine first, as they are a bit discoloured on the lenses - will see if they clean up, if not I'll get some replacements and fit the eyebrows to them before they go on the car.
If I can get my car looking any where near as nice as yours, I'll be a happy bunny :y

Love the spoiler :y

Another job jobbed...
(Just have to remember not to open the tailgate with the aerial on until my prodrive adaptor arrives...)
Next ... bumpers :y
-
Very smart :y
-
Coming along nicely mate! Looking more like mine every day!! :y
