Title: Bit of a random question...
Post by: Lazydocker on 27 September 2011, 22:00:06
Actually, a very random question here but you never know with this forum! :y

I'm looking for an amiable farmer in the Chelmsford/Colchester area (i.e. A12 corridor somewhere from North Chelmsford to South Ipswich) who would be willing to rent me some outdoor storage space at a reasonable price :-\ Basically I want to put a 2500L bunded fuel tank on it :y Must be outside and must be 3m+ from buildings/flammables. I need to be able to access it 24/7 (although should be no later than 10pm most of the time) and I need a deal! ::)

Anyone know someone/somewhere? Basically I'm happy to rent the right space for the right price :y

Any idea's then please PM or post on this thread.

TIA :y

What about going around the Farms yourself Paul in the area you are after?

Seeing the Farmer face to face in my opinion goes a long way :y

Good Luck by the way mate  :-*

That's the plan for the next couple of days but you never know if someone on here can give you a heads up or put in a good word... Can't hurt ;) :y

I have already got an offer near to my house but Ideally want something in the specified area :y

When's the trip down this way planned? Want a beer? ::)

Have already got somewhere near home but ideally need it to be 25-35 minutes away from here so easily reachable within my territory  ;)

Sure I'll get somewhere without too much hassle but, like I said, no harm in trying for a foot in the door ;)

Plenty of farms around there.Probably needs a day in the area knocking on doors. Dont know if the old Andersons timber yard might be a possibility. Most of it seems to be rented out to east coast salvage nowadays. :-\

Ditto airfields, both used and disused. Quite a few in the area. They always have the odd corner that can't be used for much else, might be glad of a little rent. :y

I used to fly at the gliding club at Wormingford, would probably be ideal but that was 20 years ago and a lot has changed there, looking at their web site.

Handy for the A12 too. ;D You'd have burnt all the fuel by the time you get there.

Slight change in the urgency for this as the legislation hasn't been finalised for the requirements for a Tank so I'll be going for the backup plan of 205L Drums on a Spill Pallet (as this has been confirmed as acceptable) as a short term arrangement.

This is (obviously) much easier to move when the time comes that I have somewhere else sorted so I can use the local place I already have on offer :y

Still looking though ;)

It would indeed :y :y

Or even better, around the back in the loading area so not such an eyesore :D

The pressure is off a little as I can set up temporary storage easily and then move it in the future :y It may be that another one of the guys may come in with me and we'll get a bigger tank as I have a friend who may have suitable land

It's just me the £10 of petrol I put in my diseasal Astra so far ................  ::) ::) ::) A gallon of it's in an old oil can waiting to be added a bit at a time to the next couple of tanks of diesel.  ;D ;D ;D
It started OK on diesel after I'd drained the original mix.  :y :y

Thanks for the kind wishes :y

Yes, it is the Fuel Drain business coming together. Collect the van from the dealers tomorrow and deliver it to Holmsfirth for the fitting of the equipment (I could have just got the dealer to do it for me at cost, but it's a good excuse for us to have a weekend away!) and then should be doing my head office training w/c 17th October :y :y

Not planning to go fully live with it until November 7th due to other commitments but will probably do the contract jobs I can cover in between finishing training and that date :y

It's all looking very good and finally coming together ::) Not much left to sort now... Card Machine, Business Banking, Storage (although that's not looking so stressful now), dates for some external courses and a meeting with my accountant to get the accounting software up and running :y

Fingers crossed it all works out

Are we adding a nozzle swapping session to the Essex meet itinerary? :-X

Too early, I won't be up and running by then :D :D :D

TBH, there's no need. They have only notified one of the 4/5 national contracts that they are active in the area (was previously sold but the guy only did 5 days, long story and not one I can go into but nothing to do with the actual business I've bought ;)) and they are getting 2/3 per week minimum just from them :y Plus, the area isn't marketed yet so it's just reliant on the contracts at the moment.

It's all boding well IMO :y
