Title: 2000 omega 2.5td running problems
Post by: Jonny909 on 28 September 2011, 22:34:05
Hi, I'v got a 2000 omega 2.5td (bmw engine) and i'm in a bit of a predicament. The problem with it is that it starts and runs for ruffly 10minutes, then it will cut out. Try starting it again and it will not fire up. I'v cracked injector nuts while cranking over n not a drop of diesel comes out. If i leave the car alone for a day it will start up then cut out again after 10min ish and will not start again. Iv replaced the pump in the swirl pot in the tank which i orginally thought it was but it has made no difference.

Any help would muchly appreciated.

Thanks Jonny

Any fault codes present? I'm not sure if you can paperclip a 2000 2.5TD or if that's late enough that it requires a code reader :-/ http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90581.0

Apparently you can paperclip some 2000 TDs, (but not mine :-[), worth trying the pedal trick, you may be lucky.  :-\

I would suspect the Crank Shaft sensor...  But, you can try unplugging the sensor (located just below the starter motor)...  It will run at a high Idle (around 2000 rpm), the car will start without it connected...

If it does start with it disconnected, it may be worthwhile having a look at the starter motor, I have had problems where it has come slightly loose and dropped a little, causing the car not to start or being a big problem to start...  Just a straight removal and replace...

First of all you can paperclip all 2.5 tds.
You might find its either the lift pump in the tank has failed and when there is less than 20 litres in the tank it won't start.
To test this turn on the ignition and then listen for the pump makeing a noise in the tank.
The fuel filter housing/diesel warmer is not seated properly and is drawning air

I can't paperclip mine, is there a different procedure?
He has changed the pump, but then it starts fine, only lets him down after ten minutes.
