Title: Collecting all my Parts now for Sidious' Operation
Post by: Darth Loo-knee on 29 September 2011, 16:38:28
What I have planned at the minute for "Sidious" my Black Mini Facelift MV6..

Head gaskets & bolts
Port heads whilst off
New valve stem seals plus reseat all the valves
3.2 exhaust manifolds plus removing all SAI parts
Relocating EGR
Cam cover gaskets & o rings
New reservoir bottle (love the nice new ones :D)
Wishbones
Irmscher Springs or Steinmetz not decided fully yet, both are brilliant had them before, though Irmscher are a little too hard for my liking so will have too see with this one...
Bilstein B4 shocks
Try to get an Irmscher Body Kit
New Toyo Tyres
Stainless Steel Exhaust
New Discs & Pads
A few tiny rust bubbles need sorting.

I have thought about having the rear windows tinted but not sure with it being a Black car??

After messing with another Forum Members car which looks very very similar indeed I have started Itching to get it started  ;D

my old black elite (S***FUM , the one that went to James, then Tunnie, before, the V755PDA one i gave Lee) had tinted rear three quarter...   loved the privacy, loved the fact that it helped the car stay cooler in the sun...   and loved the look, what's not to like???

I can definitely say it helped keep it cooler....  having had 2 otherwise identical cars.....

the Silver on my MV6 is cooler in sunshine than untinted Black elite was, but i fancy getting it tinted up to add a little more privacy and keep it cooler still...    the air volume in an estate takes a helluva while to get really cool with A/C  working , and mine needs regassing at the very least....

what i'm not sure about is what tint to get put on.....   it's an easy choice on a black car witha black interior...   but this MV6 aint,  it's silver with a charcoal grey leather interior...

Good luck finding Irmscher Springs! Little angry man had to buy a car with them already on!

TheChav has tinted windows all around, the fronts are illegal and will have to go. Sadly the tints have the nasty purple effect to them. I'm not sure if I will remove them as it will make a mess of the rear window  :-\

Sounds like a good project  :y

daft question, forgive me....   while summoning up the idiocy to buy original springs for my MV6,  i've been being tempted by the 40mm lowered kits on on ebay and such like....

are they no good in the event of a lack of irmschers???

(i've gone mad and i'm forking out a smidge over £200 for my pair of rear, original , shortened MV6 springs , new .....  )

Irmscher & Steinmetz drop the car 30mm if I remember correctly.. my personal opinion is that 40mm is a little low..
Pretty sure you can get a full set of Steinmetz Springs for less than £250 :y

Yeah Irmscher drops by 30mm, expect a trip to WIM again afterwards. I've driven a 3.2 with full Irmscher springs & running gear, its very impressive, corners on rails without compromising on ride, it was not worse than standard MV6 i thought ...

Max, I fitted Steinmetz Springs on my Mrs' old estate which handled perfectly, the only draw back was it scraped the exhaust over every speed hump, so would imagine 40mm would be worse still...

Hope that helps

Agree with everything you put there Tunnie, other than what I have highlighted.
Irmscher springs are impressive and corner lovely, but in my opinion are very hard...
I had two Mini Facelift MV6's before this one now. Vader had Irmscher, Maul had Steinmetz. Out of the two I would pick Steinmetz. Why? They hold the road very well same as Irmscher in my opinion, but seem to be more forgiving to your teeth  ;D
As for MV6 Standard Shocks and Springs, again in y opinion they are totally different  :)

Sticking my neck out again  :D

Can I do the heads?

I also have an exhaust manifold gasket you can have (a 3.2 one but sadly one one!)

when you say they drop the car 30 mm,  are you saying that it drops it ANOTHER 30mm on the MV6 which is already 30mm lower anyway??

making the car end up 60mm lower overall???

Interesting, they are stiff, no doubt about that. I took it on a very hard drive through very twisty lanes then looped back on the A43, so good mixture. I'm used to standard non SL suspension, which is very soft in comparison.

I found it soaked up bumps well, the twisty section is very rough full of pot hols. The wheels were 18"s too...  :-\

To be fair I've not taken it on a motorway blast, that might highlight how hard it is  :-\

Very nice  :y

I got to admit, I prefare the pre / mini facelift.
As for the window, i'd do the tint in 3 shades.
Darkest on the back window then lighter as it moves forward.

I did my old Td Estate ( before it fell apart ) like that and it looks a treat.
I also put my company logo and contact details on the back and side windows in silver  :y
I had only drove it 3 miles down the road before I had my first phone call while sat at some lights

Must say, those wheels would look better on mine.
Want to swap for a set of 15" and shall we say 20 quid ?   ;D ;D

Testing The Beastie after Pinky had rebuilt half the engine gave me an urge to consider a manual project. Every time I drive TheDaddys car, I end up with a massive grin.  Its even more fun, as the tyres are utter shite ;D

Tunnie - the Irmscher sprung/Irmscher shocked ride is definately stiffer than MV6.

Pinky - Vader was possibly the best handling Omega I've driven. I loved every minute of that trip, even if you didn't. The car was perfection - fast, predicatable, consistent. A credit to you.  Then you break it for spares. Mad fool :P

MaxV6 - Irmscher/Steinmetz = 30mm drop. Std MV6 varies between 0mm and 15mm depending on model/options.

As to LPG, I would every time.  But if you see that Gixer bloke with a pocket of gravel walking up to the car.....

I have to admit when I had finished it was the Best Omega I have driven. Sidious however will be better. I will allow you knobby to drive it with the same deal as before... You ditch it you fix it :D

What are you doing different with this one Daz ?

Little bits here and there Steve, plus Sidious is a manual.

What I did notice whilst having a test drive in The Beastie on the local airstrip, that in third gear the speed was slightly more than what Obi's was. I can only put that down to a 2.6 diff against a 3.0 diff. Obi was able to drive everywhere in 3rd gear, it would drive from 10-15 mph upto 95-97mph with no question.... getting side tracked here.....

It did handle extremely well. The Master had it sideways which quiet frankly had me soiling myself... I did however enjoy the entry (to the make shift roundabout they fixed on the airstrip) the spirited drive around and exit so much, I begged him to do it again  :D ;D

You going for the 4.22 diff then  :y
Should get you of the line a bit quicker  :)

I can see me having to pop over that way to see the finished artical  ;D

Has anybody on here done the bilstein / eibach setup on a estate?
If so, whats it like ?

Yeap me ;D on Mrs' facelift 3.0 elite estate.. fitted steinmetz springs (which eibach make to steinmetz spec) and Bilstein Shocks..... Handle brilliant Mrs went the long way around to anywhere so she could "put her foot down around corners" ;D
The only down side which did my head in so I sold it  ::) was when weight was put in the boot it would drag is arse on every speed hump which we have a lot of around here >:(

Bugger  :(

With the amount of weight I carry in the back and pulling the van, i'll end up grinding the towbar away  :'( :'(

Think i'll have to scrap the van, dig the tent out and buy a lighter toolbox  ;D ;D

Then again, i'll have to look into this because my rear springs are knack*rd (it sits tail low with no extra weight in the back) so it maybe down 20mm or so to start with  :-\

How long before you get Sidious finished ?

Quiet a while yet mate, as long as He's done for Spring I will be happy :y

If we have another elite estate, I would actually fit the original springs and shocks to the car being honest. Any weight in or on the back it will level itself, plus no crashing over the speed humps...
Don't forget New Springs & Shocks will feel totally different too warnout ones ;)

See what you mean.

The shocks are only 18 month old ( KYB at the front / Uprated Boge at the back )
Does anybody do a stiffer spring without too much of a drop ?
If I chuck it into a corner hard, the back end twists that much it nearly kicks into oversteer  :(

Great fun if its just me but when i've got the family and a 6 1/2 stone german shepperd in there, they get upset  ::) ;D ;D
