Title: Bit of a scare .. :(
Post by: Entwood on 05 October 2011, 18:14:35
Back home now after a scare last night... chest pain/dizziness/temperature .. phoned NHS Direct for advice .. next thing is paramedics attended and I was ambulanced to Acute Assessment Unit for cardiac checks.

Had loads of tests .. blood tests, X-rays, ECG's both resting and on a treadmill and some other odds and sods ... results just after lunchtime ... they don't know exactly what the problem was but it is NOT cardiac .... seems the old ticker is in pretty good shape after all :) ..... it took 20 minutes on the treadmill at silly inclinations and speeds anyway before the pulse hit 150 (just where do they get that target from?? ) .. but me calf muscles were giving me hell !!

Possible cause now thought to be esophageal spasms ... whatever they are ... but no medication or treatment .. just a "carry on as before, if it gets worse go to your GP" message....

Mrs E was a tad upset as you can expect but all looks OK now  :y :y :y :y

Glad all has turned out OK Nige :y

Could be, as already hinted at, an allergic reaction to something :-\ I have a fair bit of experience on the symptoms ::)

Did you eat/drink anything unusual yesterday? Or doing DIY (with chemicals?) of any form? ???

Glad you're feeling a little more chipper now, Entwood. It is sometimes possible that stress/anxiety can cause or add to physical trauma. Just a thought. :y :y

Yes Opti, I was going to say the same. There's nothing like thinking you're going to die for getting the old palpitations going.

Thanks for all the wishes ....  :y :y

Food .. meal eaten 45 minutes before eaten on numerous occasions in the past.

No stress/anxieties that I'm aware of !!

One of the medics reasonings is that the initial sensation rapidly decreased when a spray of "GTN" (?) - something to do with nitroglycerine - this was administered by the paramedics and was partly the reason for them thinking "heart".

It would appear that this spray also has an effect on the esophagus as they are both "smooth muscles" so they are linking the two together to reach the spasm solution ......

Rapidly running out of memory on the stuff they told me now !!! perhaps "someone who knows" can confirm/deny this stuff ...  google has just got me totally confused !!!

Anyway .. been told that peppermint oil capsules can help so we might try them tomorrow .. :)

Iirc we have discussed our back problems in the past...?

I get all sorts off sensations, some give very convinvcing heart attack symptoms, pounding, shortness of breath, temperature.... all around the upper left quarter of torso...etc Etc. Usually when slouched in a chair relaxing with no heart rate or stress present at all. Had the tests, 24hour monitors blah blah. No cardiac issues to be seen bar some ectopic beats everyone gets.

Nerves aggravated give all sorts of sensations, and sometimes in my case panic sets in, but over the years have learnt to control it in upper back. Lower back twinges can be extremely painful, or feel like your mobile phone is ringing/vibrating in my pocket.

Given the sensations I experience, anything is possible. From someone stroking my face, sight disturbances,  to drop dead call an ambulance and all the panic and fear that brings on.

If you have spinal issues in upper half if spine perhaps....? Upper lumber is it?  :-\

Good grief, you as well..... :o :o Me a week ago, Phil recently. Glad you are OK though, whatever the reason for the initial symptoms.... :y :y

My heart rate was 136 lying in bed, so no need for a treadmill, thankfully :D :D :D

I had a bit of a scare reading the first half of your post...I do hope it's a blip.
The mere thought of a treadmill made my heart rate increase...I'm glad I didn't have to do any steep inclinations  :D
Have a rest  :y
I'm in Bath atm, and pass through Swindon frequently...Mrs E and yourself would be more than welcome to join me for dinner one night somewhere nice.

autumn is a dangerous season.. sudden temperature drops and sudden increases makes changes in your arteries..

which forces heart to adapt its rate .. so its worth to be careful imo..
