Post by: mahony on 11 October 2011, 17:50:11
Just got a pair of new shocks on trade club  (£139 and a few pence  )as my elite bounces a couple of time when pushed down by hand, am i correct in that the brake discs do not have to be removed to replace the shocks ( not sure about the caliper thou ).

brake disc can stay put but caliper has to be removed

The top caliper carrier bolt needs to be removed.

As to post editing, until we have stability, some features are disabled. Hopefully we can get on top of this soon, but its time consuming.

Remeber to hold the damper rod still when undoing the top nut, and only undo the top one before fitting compressors on to the spring. :y

The shocks where on order from underwoods of clacton, they where ordered last tuesday and i was told they would be ready for collection on the thursday,  rang them thursday to be told that they could only locate one shock at the moment and would ring me friday to let me know when the second shock would be in stock, rang them today and still no shock, i then told them i will be cancelling the order if they cannot give a date for the arrival of the second shock , their reply was i would have to pay for one of the shocks  >:(, you could not make it up ), also is it the norm for them to take payment for the shocks ( £139 ) on the same day there ordered ??

Maybe for the payment taken but to say i have to pay for one when they cannot ( yet ) supply a second one is a bit rum  >:(

Can't answer for any other dealer but we do not take payment at the time of ordering for this very reason, we will take payment details at the time of ordering but will not process the payment until the parts are ready to ship.

You may well find that the other shock is on backorder from Vauxhalls. If this is so then they will be waiting for the backoder section of Vauxhalls to find one and come back to them with an ETA.

They should have also contacted you as soon as they knew the shock wasn't going to be available, thats just good customer service at the end of the day

If your stuck please give me a call on the number listed below and i'll get onto the order system as see if they are back ordered

Cheers
Andy

Just had a look into this and Vauxhalls are showing plenty of both sides in stock and the prices for a pair on Trade  Club inc VAT is £117.05.

I'd doulble check what part numbers they have ordered as they should be 9192250 & 9192249 @ £48.77 each + VAT on the current trade club price

Cheers

Unfortunately it's a bit late now ::) ::)

But that's the route I'm going to go down, with Eibach springs (unless I stumble upon some Red Irmy ones for an Estate ::))

Interesting.
I posted recently about fitting Eibach's and B4's to my Elite estate and was advised against it as it would drag it's arse with any weight in it. In fairness, I did imply that I was doing the front first and as I do tow occasionally this had a bearing on the advice given. I have also just fitted new rear self levellers on so I would have had a mis-match. I'm in no hurry but will stick with standard replacements I think.  :-\

Different situations though ;) ;) I now tow vary rarely as the Caravan is going (we just don't use it enough to justify having it) and want the performance. The plan is that I might well fit some Spring Assister's (Airbag type) with a Schrader valve in the boot for the odd occasion I'm fully loaded. I won't be binning/selling the S/L setup until it's confirmed as all working OK, just in case.

My car has gone from my daily drive to more of a weekend thing now so I'm not so worried ;) Having seen Chrisgixer's saloon on a similar setup with a LPG tank that concern has diminished a little ;) TBH, I catch the towbar now on aggressive Speed humps if I'm not careful so not sure it will be an ideal setup but we'll see. The advantage of the stiffer setup is that it will dip less so it may be OK

I did not follow up with the part numbers supplied Andy, i just rang them and insisted on a refund, which they agreed to as they still ( at 15.00hrs ) could not give me a date when there in stock  the price they charged was £139.36p inc vat for both shocks

Well Vauxhalls have both side in stock for next day delivery and you have/had been over charged, thats if they ordered the correct number in the first place

Thinking of it, that price of £139.36 was pretty much the same as the rear self levellers i fitted about 18mths ago  :-\
