Title: Radio issues (M/W reception)

Anybody know of any issues relating to M/W recption in all the omega range / or mods (bar fitment of a new vauxhall/aftermarker radio) ???????????????????????????????????????? Rdgs Tech1

Have a look back through some previous posts and you will see a multitude of discussions including:

- a poor internal aerial that will struggle to receive anything,

- An amazing amount of electrical interference generated by the vehicle electrics that will mask most of the MW signals,

- the shift to FM of most of the MW stations,

- the only way to listen to 5 live or talk sport is on DAB,

- and the need for a decent external aerial if you are going to fit an aftermarket stereo with a decent tuner.

Probably missed a few, but that should keep you searching for a while !!

half the problem is were we live, there is a lot of signals bouncing around, I dont even get it in the house with radio, do get alot of police chatter and beeps, try going out to maltby get better signals there.

half the problem is were we live, there is a lot of signals bouncing around, I dont even get it in the house with radio, do get alot of police chatter and beeps, try going out to maltby get better signals there.

No you dont. The emergency services use an encrypted digital system that you can't listen to, so who ever you can hear it isn't the Police. Security guards maybe but certainly not the Police proper.

So how are you managing to decrypt the encrypted (and digital) signals into an unencrypted analogue one that an AM set can demodulate?  Lets even assume you can pick up and demodulate a harmonic in the first place?

The transmissions are constant and scrambled - operating in the 400Mhz band. Your inteference isn't coming from the TETRA infrastructure - unless you are parked right next to one of the base sites and your receiver is getting swamped.

Didn't think tetra transmissions were deencrypted even at base stations?

Three more issues, all common on Omegas
- the aerial plug in the back of the head unit cage can be dislodged if the head unit is removed and the wire to it is quite fragile.

- There is an aerial connector behind the kick panel in the passenger footwell that might have become disconnected. (not found this one myself)
 
- The aerial amplifier lives under the fibre parcel shelf. It uses the elements of the rear screen heater as the antenna. If you lose all radio reception when the rear screen heater is on then check for poor connections from the amplifier to the rear screen heater and check that the amplifier has a good earth.
