and there is the problem. ;) A new sensor wire closes the circuit, when it wears through because the pads have worn down, it opens the circuit & puts the message up. You need a new sensor(s) or old sensor wires with the end cut off & the ends shorted together. :y

you can just stick a bit of wire in the socket - but this will rust and seize in time.
I would do a wanted ad for an old sensor - plug that in, and join the wires up.
Same idea, but safer and wont damage your car.

it only started about 4 weeks ago and the wire been of since i had it
-
there are (or would have been) sensors each side :y
-
sorry, reread - if you mean theres never been a check wire connected, then someone has probably shoved a paperclip in the socket which has now fallen out, or rusted away.
-
no wire been cut and taped
-
both sides? undo and check them both, one has unshorted by the sounds of it.

ok jimbob will check in the next few days to wet and windy now

LOL, I just had to bodge my sensor up - it finally broke after pads being in and out a number of times.
I tend to reuse my sensors, as my pads usually get changed long before the wear sensor gets touched at around 1/3rd left, as the heat dissipation is noticibly less after the pad is half worn...
