Hello again folks,
Apologies for being absent for so long (not that I expect anyone's noticed! ;D )
Have been pre-occupied lately by quite a few things...
Working loooong hours, and through weekends too.
Selling our old motorhome, and searching all over the country for a new one (well, new to us) that fits our needs.
Family weddings.
Having a month touring round Europe in the afore-mentioned new-to-us motorhome.
Working even longer hours to catch up on the work missed since being away for the afore-mentioned month.
Getitng myself back onto 2-wheels! Got a 1979/80 Honda Superdream 400. Bought as a restoration project from a 74-yr old gent who's owned her for 25yrs! He was asking peanuts for it (the price of a couple of good nights out!), with full MOT but no tax. It looked a mess (the poor chap couldn't bend down to clean it, so it just got left), but I took a punt on it given it was rideable. Got it home, and stripped it down. Gave it a good dousing in Gunk. Under all the grease and grime was a spotless machine. Gave it a further good scrub and polish, built it up again, and she's come up like a new penny! Still a few bits n bobs to sort out, but the bulk of it's done :)
Oh, and the main thing, my Miggy flew through her MOT at the beginning of Oct, not even a single advisory! And the MOT tester said "that's the cleanest car underneath I've seen for years", to which I said "It can't be - you told me that last year!!" ;D Fortunately he has a sense of humour!
So what's new on here? Have I missed much? I have been checking in now-and-then, but it's mostly been on my mobile, and it doesn't have the best screen to read off really...

I remember these from my youth. Comstar wheels and about 43 BHP if memory serves. Nice enough, but not a replacement for the 400/4 which I owned back in the mists of time..... :y

If you mean am I still employed at that Beanz place up the road, then yes. Am I still working? .......... As little as possible - like the rest of them! ::) ::) :y
New shifts mean we're there even fewer days in a month now, 14 in 28 ;) ;)

Yep, them's um Opti!
Was your 400/4 the one with the snake-like (sorry, couldn't think of a better description!) 4-1 exhaust? Gorgeous bikes them, but prices are through the roof now

Most are 12 hrs, just a few 9 hrs. (5 days in, 3 days off, 6 days in, 5 days off, 3 days in, 6 days off) Not too bad for 'vanning, but have to work around SWMBO's job too. :y :y

Will not question our fearless leader then! ;D
Nar, what's that in English?! I don't speak any French me (hence why on our Europe trip we missed it out, bar an ovenighter in Dunkirk - Germany is the future! Was paying 1.65euro for 6 500ml bottles of beer, cheaper than water!!)
But I hope "mais qui" means "yes, given you spent all day on it and skinned your knuckles countless times, and found out that Gunk smarts more than a tad when it makes contact with an open flesh wound... :'( :D

Yep. That's the one. I took off the original silencer and replaced it with a "Dunstall power pipe". Made no difference whatsoever to the power output....................but sounded soooo much better. :y :y

Ooooohhh! Did it not break about with the fuel-ing, or as it ok? Bikes of them vintage don't normally like having their exhausts "messed about" with? The Motad on mine has a flange inside to (apparently) make it as restrictive as the "stock" exhaust, so you don't need to mess about with the carb jets. Sounds nice - well, as nice as a 400 superdream ever can I suppose... ;D

Shifts can be blessing, can also be a pig. Mine are 10 hour shifts, 3 days on 3 days off. Works out at 15 days a month :D
Slightly longer than normal day, so not too bad.
Sods law always family/friends/oof events going on at weekends when I'm shifted on, but having week days off is great, everyone else is at work! ;D

Tunnie - if I can ask, what is it you do at Sky?
I only ask because a friend of mine should be interviewing for a software engineer role in the network strategy team.. and if you're anywhere near him, I should probably warn you.. ;D ;D ;D

What area of the company? We tend to have network strategy in each key area.
I'm in Mobile side of things, support all mobile apps (except SkyGo) TV streaming to mobile operators, iText broadcast & some behind scene setups which are used internally only. Some of the feeds i support go to trains, airports and stations as well. :)

The most I could figure out from the ad is that it's in the "Telecomms" area - job listings always seem to be so vague :)
-
Yeah, they are always a bit cryptic! Sky HR are slow at best of times too :(

I've never done a rolling shift like that, but work with plenty who have. It seems to be a b4ll ache as it takes weeks before you get a complete week end off.

It's still early days yet with these shifts, we've only just done a complete cycle of them. So far, the general feeling is that they're OK but they're a bit all or nothing, ie in work for a fortnight with 3 days off or off for a fortnight with 3 day in. We'll get used to them, anything is better that 'double days' (6-2 & 2-10) ;) ;) ;)

Some months I have hardly any weekend time off, others I do. It can be a downside, but the leave makes up for it.
Take 3 days off, i get the 3 either side off as well (not shift on)
So 3 days leave, becomes 9 when I am not if the office, 6 days booked off becomes 18, and so on! Rather big perk I never realised when taking the job.
Booking a month off here, is not unheard of!

I work 3 out of 4 weekends, but get plenty of weekdays off.My shift rota is 12 shifts in every 28 days,6 of which are weekends.
It does change due to holiday cover though,as I have to cover other peoples holidays and they cover mine.
