Title: 17 minutes
Post by: jereboam2 on 21 October 2011, 13:10:38
My car just failed the MOT on (of all things) not enough light from headlights - the lenses are covered in gunge.  Cleaned them as best I can - not a lot better.  Going back for a re-test in 15 minutes now - any suggestions?

OK, now I've got that bit up, can somebody tell me why I can't login under my old name.  If I try, it says I don't exist, if I re-register, it says I already exist.

Sorry I've not been around for while - various reasons - may explain it all one day, if anybody's interested.  Don't like having to fill in the "captcha" or however it's spelled. Where's the moans topic about the new forum?

Cillit Bang and a Scotchbrite didn't help!  Bit frightened to try T-cut or wet and dry - I'll give them a go if it fails again.  Never thought of toothpaste or Brasso. Got to go in 2 minutes now.

T-cut is fine fella. Wet 'n' dry is more a 3hr project going up the grades. Good luck :y

It passed this time - advisory for the lights, along with more advisories for both "front suspension arm rubber bushes", whatever they may be, both rear tyres, front number plate and an oil leak.  Knew about the number plate and tyres, but the oil leak surprises me.  I don't think I've ever had to top up the oil in the five years I've the car - it never leaks.

Wasted half my day, that has.  Now I'm going to watch the second half of the Australia - Wales match, which I had to record as I stupidly booked the MOT to coincide with it.

Thanks for all the advice - I'll be back.

Ssshh, we don't talk about the edit button or it angers TB... ;)

(Seriously though - no, it went away when the new site was introduced. It'll come back at some point, but at the moment it's a low priority fix well below "site stability" on the list of things TB has to get through..)
