Title: Poss. New mig for me :) tips needed v6 auto
Post by: maracus on 21 October 2011, 17:47:45
I'm hopefully off to go and look at a 3.0 miggie tomorrow, just after a few pointers..

Is it anyone's here??

What to look for that differs to what I'm used to- (mid 90's 4 pot griffins and my td migs)

What sort of price becomes 'too much' on said car as it's on bids

Any other general pointers?

I'm unfamiliar with auto boxes.

The plan would be to get the car and convert to LPG after a few weeks of checking that I'm happy it's a happy car.

3.0 to LPG because the insurance for me on a 3.2 is £gaygaygay, and I need to equlivate to 40+mpg so the offset from cheaper fuel would see me fit ;)

Fit an LPG kit myself (with the help of my lpg fitting friend) because it will help for when things go wrong- I'll know what's where and what it is

I'm done with my td's fancy a change lol

Oh the car.. I'm currently iphoning it and don't know how to attach a link via the app yet, but it's eBay listing 230688395608 it's in rushden northants.

Any tips would be good ta...

I just spoke to the chap, he owns a garage it's his uncles car but used to be his...

Hmm..

Anyway off to look at it tomorro, but it has no service history upto 64k ish then he had it 6 months ago. Usually I'd run a mile from this but still I'm curious..

It's had the bits listed, the guys like 'I can do you receipts for what I've done 'coz I own a garage.' No old MOT's by the sounds of it so need to do a dvla check, also a 'mycarcheck' app needs doing for any outstanding bad news...

Cambelt kit claimed to have been used,

Also recently had a crank sensor, and he said some oil seal (rear main or something) has been done.

As for service history, I'm only really bothered about regular oil changes. If this wasn't the case and wear had occurred, I'm guessing that I'd tell from hearing the car start from cold...

He reckons the cars pretty mint tho, so we'll see...

I wouldn't worry about service history TBH, mine had full Vx history at 63k confirmed by MOT's and it's needed more to get it running nice, and still not as nicely as my 170k saloon I sold ::)

Just give it a good going over and make sure you're starting it from cold ;) Plus, paperclip it :y

This one came in as change from £700, 6points and a claim tho so only tpft but a good £330 a year cheaper than a 3.2! I refuse to have a 'daily runner' that's dearer to insure than my weekend toy lol

Mine is :( ;D The MR2 with all mods declared (turbo kit, ~260bhp, suspension, bracing, wheels, late revision exterior parts, roll bar, stereo, etc) cost me £650 a year fully comp.. the Omega was £600 TPF&T ;D

Yeah? Similar story with me only it's a cav turbo and the td mig was fully comp :)

Cavs on a limited 5000 miles tho u?

It's like insurance 'top trumps' now...

;D I think I had 8,000 miles on the MR2 - it was my main car for a long long time and I'm always hesitant about limiting the mileage.. not that reducing it (it was 12k and 10k previously) seemed to do much to reduce the premium! :(

I nearly went for a group policy with TradeX, which would have covered the Omega, MR2 and 300ZX for £1200 a year - only I don't intend to have three cars for that long.. I hope. Unless the MR2 doesn't sell..

What are they like on modified cover? The cavs got a fair ol' list..

I might give them a try- I like the flexibility of multiple vehicles because ones always broken!

I'd like to keep the nova covered so it can stay taxed so its usable as back up for this new car if I end up doing work on it.. Stuffs usually off the road for a week or three at a time with me! Plus I don't like to depend on the cav during downtime from other cars as if anything not right arises I dont want to have to keep using it regardless.

Only it costs a bloody fortune!

They didn't bat an eyelid at the list of mods on the MR2 (and like yours, I imagine, it's quite a list when you break it all down) - but they don't cover the value of the modifications, so if the worst happens.. you get the price of a standard car back. So no worse than most high street insurers, because they all do that, but not as good as a specialist who'll offer agreed value or the value of the modifications (which is the basis the MR2 is insured on, and I imagine your Cav, too?)..

But I was still sorely tempted for a lot of the same reasons you list there :)

yeah I'm on agreed valuation I think based on purchase price in my case but now you mention it, I'll investigate..

Back on subject though, if the car seems good in the flesh is that sort of but it now price ok money for these?

Kind of taken by the desire for a 3.2 but can't justify the insurance cost. So want as close as possible so I'll check this mv6 first ;)

Will bear it in mind though cheers  :y

Well I've been to check the car, everything seems cool with it so I've paid the guy a deposit and left...

Will return to pick it up later if I get around a slight problem I've encountered; I went to withdraw some of the cash en-route and the damned machine swallowed my card.
To be precise, the card appeared to jam on the way out, I don't know if the end of the card was frayed or if I'd stuck a piece of paper in with the card or wether there was a device on the card slot.. But ive been on to the bank and sorted it it just means I cant access my money til Monday- an arse as I want to get the car tonight!! But anyhow im working on ways around it and the daily cash withdrawal limit on my other account so will see what happens...

The car has a blow somewhere (I didn't notice until I blipped the throttle with my head under the bonnet) on the manifold but I'm not too worried about that- if it falls off I'll fix it lol, and the air con pump seems like the clutch system's fkuced and the body's not exactly show standard but to be fair my estate was worse so not too worried lol

Everything else seems to work on the car tho and it starts and runs sweet.

Will get some pics up when I've collected it ;)
