help would be very appreciated :y
i may be swapping my mig for a '99 1.8 mgf. does anyone know of things to look out for as i dont know alot about these cars.
i know i may get some people saying why? but fuel costs is the major reason along with migs not selling.
thanks in advance :y :y

Let's see:
Overheating
Check the interior trim - they were screwed together by blind people
Check the roof - the one I test drove had a nice hole in it
Overheating
Overheating
Overheating
Did I mention overheating? ;D
Er.. someone will be along with more helpful answers in a minute.. (or not, this is OOF, after all ;D)

small list compared to most migs you get on here then. ;D ;D :y

Yes, the long run of cooling pipework to the front of the car combined with the well documented K series issues in that area made this one of the worst K series applications when it came to cooling and head gasket issues.
Probably nothing that couldn't be sorted with a careful rebuild and some cooling system modifications, but make sure you know what you are getting into.

Roof's can leak between the door window and hood soaking your legs, hydragas suspension leaks, worn bushes in the front and rear suspension, rust in the inner sills to the rear and the above K series engine problems but they are good on fuel though oh and you might have a problem selling it because people are scared of the head gasket problems but apart from that they're a good car

Just to add, I bought a MK2 MGF 99 on a V for £600 with a tatty hood and worn rear bushes. I replaced the hood with a good second hand one, poly bushed the rear suspension and put a 12 month MOT on it and 6 months tax. The previous owner had just spent a fortune on head gasket, cambelt, water pump, radiator, front and rear disk and pads and a new cat and exhaust. The car was mint when I finished, not a spot of rust anywhere, I put it up for sale in the summer for £1200 and didn't get a single sniff so reduced it to £1000 after a month, nothing so reduced it to £800, nothing so ended up taking the 51 plate 2.6 CDX i've just broken and £400 in part ex for it. I enjoyed driving it in the summer but was glad to see the back of it ;D

elite pete has covered all the problems but theres a few mg forums might be worth a little browse the head gaskets are quite easy to replace but like all cars they have their faults :y

bit like my mig then :'( nobody wants them :'( the only way to get shot is to sell for a stupid price or to swap with something else, which is why i asked cos someone wants to swap my mig for a mg mgf.
looks like ill just wait and see what else turns up. cheers for the info :y looks like i wont be touching a mg with a barge pole ;D

is the person with the mg local so you could have a look

I think people are scared of fuel prices with the Omega but don't realise they're not bad on fuel on a run, the MGFs do have head gasket problems which again puts people off. A similiar aged MX5 will sell quickly and for nearly twice the price and an MGF

about 25 miles away. i would've only took the mg to sell on cos i thought it would be easier to sell on. migs dont sell for shite and been looking about and the mg sells better.the mg is on a 98 with 80k on the clock where as my mig has 68k.its just the juice it drinks puts people off the mig :'(

i only do short runs so drinks loads.

what people are saying is true but it all depends on the car if its been looked after, antifreeze used all the time and a good radiator.
its a bit like saying dont buy a mig because they rust, wishbone bushes go etc
-
Wouldn't touch it with a bargepole because all the issues previously mentioned :-\
-
Although the MGF does have all the problems that Pete has mentioned ;D I actually like driving them....
Its personal choice yet again.... every car there is has its own problems... if you like the car you will fix it :y
Go onto the Land Rover Forum and ask what they think of the Omega?

I took a 160 (TF) out for a test drive before I bought the MR2 - it actually had the edge in terms of straight line speed, and possibly the edge in cornering ability, at least as standard.. but the build quality put me right off (as I say, the demonstrator vehicle had a hole in the roof, bits of interior trim falling off, it stank of oil and the gear change was like stirring porridge)..
If they could fix all those points.. I'd buy one today, even.
