Started the 2.6 last week after it had stood outside unused for a fortnight. The engine cranked over freely on the starter but only fired very intermittently. A quick check under the bonnet showed nothing obvious so I just kept on cranking. It gradually fired more frequently, then often enough to keep going without the starter, and finally caught on all cylinders after a minute or so. It felt like fouled plugs, which is possible as I have a mild case the usual valve stem problem.
Anyway, it has had a few dozen starts and done a few hundred miles since then and behaved perfectly, starting first time every time. The tickover might be slightly less smooth than before but hardly noticeable. There has been no warning light of any sort and the pedal trick gave no codes either then or now. Shouldn't it show a few misfire codes?
Any ideas for what the problem might have been? First signs of crank sensor failure or just a glitch?

any codes?

Nope - pedal trick was clear then and is still clear now.
