Title: SKY (again)
Post by: PhilRich on 29 October 2011, 16:07:42
Well, had the SKY tv installed today by an 'Engineer' ::)
What a Dogs Dinner he's made of it too! >:( He fixed the dish to the end wall of my flat roofed single storey kitchen extension despite me asking for it to be fitted to the main house wall at high level & the wiring run from the back of the house to the front has to be seen to be believed!! :D I'm lucky if there's a cable clip every 1.5 metres, it's mostly at low level where the dogs will soon discover it's loose & play merry hell with it! Instead of dropping it 50mm to go under the gatepost, he ran it 1.5metres up & over it again with just one clip at the bottom & one on the bend at the top,  then continued at that height until he came to the rainwater downpipe where he cable tied it the pipe for the 1.5metre drop to it's original level :o
There are no clips at all where it runs across my front doorstep and the odd one along the front of the house to the entry into the house where there is no termination box fixed on the living room wall, just a silicone hole stopper and a long length of cabling to the digibox! Oh, & he left the brick dust and rubble on my living room carpet where it had missed his 'dust sheet' (the plastic bag the digibox came in!!!!) I'm getting more & more like Victor Meldrew every day! Everything is going to Hell in a Handbasket & the majority don't seem to give a fig! :(

Does sound a bit of bodged install  :(

Tho the bit where you say he didnt drop the cable under the gate post..... presumably it would have been very close to the ground....and he probably isnt allowed to run the cable that close to the ground.....could be a risk of it getting chewed by small animals  :-\

You don`t expect "quality" workmanship living in the back of beyond Phil surely ;D ;D

I would never let a Sky bodger work on my house.

I bet he banged all the nails into the damp course instead of the brickwork because it's easier? ::)

If you want a decent job done of installing a dish, you have to do it yourself.

You are all bang on in what you say fellas, apart from the bit about the small animals TD, my dogs have the choice of any point on a 16metre run along my damp proof course at the side of the house to exercise their teeth on the cable ;D And you're right too Kevin, i'm going to buy the external wiring kits & have the phone extensions fitted for the Broadband etc by my eldest lad and if the cable Company doesn't refit the cable properly I will get it done & bill them!

Depends if it a Sky fitter or a subscontractor. When I had the main install it was a Sky engineer - installation could not be faulted. A few months later we ordered Sky for Cornwall house (MIL) and it was subcontractors - they were complaining about rate of pay and umber of jobs they had to do - install was fast but not bad - god knows what would have happened if I had not been there. A subcontractor came to change an HD box just before I cancelled who was a complete muppet and did not know anything about Broadband set up or Sky Anytime and just left saying Sky had not enabled the service - which proved to be untrue.

They have sent the same lad back! He arrived just as it was getting dark :o He was a bit sheepish but still couldn't see my point about the state of his workmanship! He is still out there as I type, banging in more clips in the pitch dark with no other light than my security lantern. I can't wait for daylight  ::)  Gawd help us!  ;D

Crikey Mark that is kind of you! I will take you up on that if I may? :y Tbh, the SKY lady I complained to was very apologetic & promised to have the subcontract company supervisor call me and she did her bit but I got no call from them & the lad just turned up again unannounced as it was getting dark! :-\

Can you also PM me your details, if thats ok? (Name & address) as I will send that too and do my best to get someone to contact you.  :y

the thing is what is a standard installation as they quote a price for a standard installation...does that mean what you got was a standard installation....or is a standard install a lash up (which is what you got)
