Title: code readers

I've seen on here that some of you lads have "code readers"

Are these stand alone units or is is a case of a usb cable and a adaptor to fit various cars ?
What are you using and what sort of prices are we talking about ?

Mine is a little black box with usb cable to laptop. Cant speak in detail about it as its a chinese copy of an expensive bit of kit.
Very useful tool indeed for various things from telling you exactly which ABS sensor is knackered to switching your airbag light off,and available from a well known auction site for less than £30. ;)

Does it work on other makes and models of cars ?

I ask because i've been asked 4 times in the last week if I can read a code or turn off a light by various family members and friends.
Me thinking that I can ern a few quid here and I don't think there are any members round here that have one so it could be helpfull for the forum  :y

The bloke I know who has his own garage charges 40 quid for a reading and reset  :-\

Nope,GM only.you will need one of the more generic code readers for that. ;)

What sort of price am I looking at for one that will read other cars or do you need different software for each manufacturer ?

I know the Snap on Solus pro that my friend uses has a keyring full of differant coad chips  :-\

...yours for a couple of grand ;)



I have a rather nice device for Rovers/Landrovers (up to 2005), rare as rocking horse poo, so I guard it with my life ;D


Seeing as the Kawasaki doesn't have a diagnstic port for its quad carbs, neither does the lawnmower, I try not to invest in other devices. Don't even need the VAG one any more, seeing as all her family have come to their senses, and sold them all ;D
