Hi all, I have a 2003 2.2dti that is baffling me in failing to start. No fault codes showing. Got the RAC out last night and they failed to get it going but whilst being towed to the garage I tried a bump star & it fired up. it ran and started ok for the rest of the evening. This morning, same problem. Started, ran poorly for a few seconds & cut out. Won't start again. Is it a fuel or immobiliser problem? any advice welcome. Thanks.

If it started then its not going to be a imobiliser problem.
When last did you change the fuel filter ?
Has it been run on cooking oil or bio diesel ?
Have you run the tank dry reciently ?
Might be worth cracking the pipes off at the top of the injectors and see if you are getting diesel at the injectors while someone cranks the engine over ;)
And last but not least ............. have you got plenty of fuel in the tank ?

check fuel leak off pipes, common fault on these, had the same problem on my dti zafira and they were the problem

This same fault has caused me no end of trouble as live in Spain. Had several english mechanics who could not trace the fault.
Turned out to be 3 things all of which very cheap to buy but more difficult to fit. Firstly the fibre fuel return pipes by the injectors had perished and all needed replacing. Secondly a seal in the fuel pump worn and the rubber/plastic conectors on the main fuel pipe also had small holes in. The mechanic said there were so mainly holes he had to pump colour smoke down the line to establish there whereabouts. Think all these bits need replacement after about 4 years. Hope this helps

.. and are the glow plugs activating? ;)

Thanks to you all for your advice. Seems to be air getting into system so will check bleed off pipes. Once its going it stops & starts fine so will investigate more tomorrow. once again thanks. Graham

To find out if its an air leak, try parking nose down on a hill. 9 times out of 10 it will start the next morning ;)
