well you say that but they inject you with the flu virus they say it is dead....BUT if it was dead the vaccine wouldnt work....some people are ok with it but some hmm are not...(guessing you fall into that group)..my mum has it as she as health issues but she is fine but my sis she had it last year and she ended up like you...our area manager wants as all to have it as we are part of the co op we can just rock up at a pharmacy and it don't cost us anything..but as i said i can think of a few thing the co op can give me for free but the flu nope...hope you feel better soon mate :y

To be honest I've never had a flu jab or caught flu in years in fact I don't think they did the jabs then. SWMBO has one every year and always ends up with a cold shortly afterwards, and then asks me if I want to get a flu jab!!! They only give you a general vaccine not a specific one for the epidemic if it arrives, then get a specific one for that strain.
I'll take my chances :yes

My understanding is that you will not get flu as a result of the jab. HOWEVER it will only protect (and this is NOT necessarily total protection in that you may well experience milder symptoms) only certain strains of the virus. Bear in mind all those who wereoff with the suspected swine flu the other year and because of the sheer number of people off sick the gvt was getting people to stay at home and take the tami pills.Turned out that only a VERY small percentage actually had that particular strain. This isnt to say that the other illnesses/flu-like illnesses were not quite severe (my wife's initial symptoms matched and I had to get her the pills but it turned out she actually had severe tonsilitis), but they werent that strain. It was all about resource (number of doctors v patients) and containment so fair enough. My company are offering free flu jabs and at my age I should get one but I wont. Why?Because I always get some sort of flu like thing around Christmas but given the extra pressure and far longer working hours I do over that period my imune system does get lower and in the end ,with me, it always comes down to be related to a sinus infection so lots of vit c/sudafed is doubtless in store-with the odd hot toddy thrown in for good measure Im sure ;D

Well.....as i was in my doc's about a month ago....and as i've had flu for the last two years running....i got persuaded.....as its free this year (the gov apparently has worked out it costs more in lost days not at work due to flu, then if they pay for the jab)

Also got tricked into having a pnemonia jab as well  ::)

@Millwall.......you could be unluncky there....as nursey that stabbed me, told me it takes a few weeks to work  :-\

Im ok so far  :)

Got my 5th annual flu jab the other week.  Barely had a sniffle for the past years, as I recall, let alone full on flu.  Also got the pneumonia jab this time.  Had double pneumonia as a 10 year old (was a tad fraught at the time, apparently, bit touch and go...).  Was told the other week that there are 23 or so varients of pneumonia and I had contracted only one as a 10 year old.

Was advised that I 'may' get a sore arm if there was a reaction between new and old but, frankly, nothing noted.

Nursey did say, however, to ensure that you only get the pneumonia jab once and once only.  A repeat WILL give you a VERY sore arm, by all accounts.... :y

I used to have the 'flu every year without fail, but, for the last 7 years since having 'flu jabs, I've been clear :y

I have heard that the strain this year is very similar to last year's.  The jab is not for everyone really.  As a community health prevention measure you cannot deny it is essential, especially for those who are vulnerable.  As someone who is immunosupressed I am really considering having it for the first time.

Had mine yesterday. Never any drama other than a slightly sore arm for a day or two.

Given the choice between that and the risk of flu+asthma I know what I'd rather have.

I'm a walking cold virus for 8 months of the year  :(
I don't why but i've been the same since I was used as a pin cushion in the first week of joining the RAF  :-\
Before that, I don't think I had more then 5 days in total off school due to illness  :)

I have only had "flu" maybe 5 times in 45 years so I suppose i'm either lucky or have built up a tolerance to the basic virus  :-\

Anyway,  show me a needle and i'll run a mile  ;D :D :D
