Title: My beloved baby has finally gone to a new home......
Post by: bob.dent on 05 November 2011, 18:48:06
Well, having been thinking about parting with my beloved MV6 for a long time now due to economic reasons, we finally parted company today. :'( Ljay is now the proud new owner having been after it for a long time - congratulations Laura, I know it's in good hands with you and Jimbob.
Now James is temporarily out of work he's going to have a bit spare time to pamper it with a bit care and attention! ::)
Absolutely gutted to part with it but with a 50 mile a day commute to work and the price of fuel it was just becoming too much.
Anyway, I won't be disappearing from the forum as I've made far too many friends on here over the years so I'll still be around. :y
Oh yes, and my new car is...............erm, a Mk3 Ford Mondeo 2.0TDCI Ghia X Estate on a 52 plate. It's actually not bad and very comfortable but my Omega it ain't. ::) .........and yes, I'll still be barbequing at the odd OOF meet. :y
Congrats again Laura and I'm sure it'll give you as much enjoyment as it's given me over the years. :-* :y

You do whats best for yourself Bob, upsetting at times but sadly true.
You are also right though Bob about making some friends on here over the years , so don't be a stranger.... plus you will be required as The Chief Chef at any if not all The Meets.

Take care
Daz x

Good on you Laura. Now i love you & your car!!!! It's a baby as we all know. I washed & handwaxed it at Dougies Telford meet many years ago now. Glad it's gone to a good home where it will continue to be pampered as it should be.

See you James & the car @ Chester meet soon! 8)xx

Aah that's sad news Bob. :(

It is such a lovely car that was more than a means of transport; it undeniably had the stamp of your personality on it - that's what made it special. 8)

Still it's going to a rather special home and I'm sure that Laura will be looking after it – and loving it - from now on.

Well done Missus. :-* :-*

Thank you so much for letting me have her Bob, :'( I know how hard the decision was. I promise we'll look after her, I'll even keep her clean!  She drove beautifully on the way home, I'm in love!

Also a big thank you for rescuing us from Luton after our nightmare train journey (there's a reason I don't use public transport, it never gets me where I need to be!) you're a star! :y

A quick hello to the Omega parked at Luton Parkway station this afternoon too. :y

Yes, To further Ljays, Your rescuing us from a nightmare journey was REALLY appreciated, and above and beyond the call of duty!

Apparently nearly all the lines into Euston were closed, our train was 2 hours behind schedule already, when they decided to terminate it at Milton Keynes!  We were then bussed to Luton, where we had to buy, yes BUY new tickets into kings cross as we were no longer on Virgin West Coast!, and then had to join the queue to get into London, and out again, but Bob saved us that leg of the journey and picked us up from Luton station (where there was a well loved P reg Grey estate with OOF window stickers and tax disk holder, we left a note on the screen to say Hello, small world innit!)

She is a nice car to drive, and exceptional to look at!

Thanks again Bob, and nice to see you and Tim again :y

Sad news Bob I know how you really loved that motor  :'( but needs must and at least you know she's gone to a good home. Glad to see your going to stick around I wouldn't have expected anything less. Like you I have made friends through the forum and as the Omega gradually dissappears from the roads I hope the forum and the friendships built up over the years will continue :y

Sorry Laura, not intentional. ::) :-* To be honest I'm just glad it's gone to friends on the forum that will really appreciate her.
Took Tim back to his RAF base in Suffolk yesterday and the Mondeo runs really well and really notice the difference in fuel consumption, so mission accomplished in that respect. :y

Well done to Bob, James and Ljay for keeping one of the best Omegas on the forum in the family ;) Bob, I know how much you loved the MV6 and I know you'll miss it but you can at least see it and the forum meets and when you decide to get yourself up north for a couple of proper drinks, there's no excuse now you've got the old oil burner ;D

I think i've decided to let my diesel go as i've now got a Discovery that will run on WVO so its going to cost me about £5.60 a tank, it was hard to make the choice which one must go and i'll be sorry to see the old bus drive off into the distance because i've put a lot of blood and sweat into getting it how I wanted it but needs must. Isn't it funny how you become attached to certain cars :'(

When I was sorting out all the service history I was looking at how much I'd spent over the last 4.5 years in service, maintenance and repairs and it was a few grands worth IIRC!! :o

Not suprised!  Ive given the car a good check over today and found very little to do!

Ive fixed a tiny coolant leak where someone had used a cable tie instead of hose clip on the header tank.
All filters look in good condition, will be changing the fuel and air filters, giving it an oil service, and new wiper blades all round, and a new glovebox handle.

All brake components seem fine, all ecu's are happy (codes logged in HID Ecu from when the sensor broke previously)  All in all, seems a well maintained car. Thanks again Bob :y :D

I know this story well, recently parted with my Jaguar XJR 4,0 V8 Supercharged

Heartbreaking it was but as already said fuel is beyond a joke and this motor with its supercharged 4.0 V8 could quite easily be brought down to single numbers MPG wise  :-X. To much to with stand these days.
Least I have a up side a 3.2 Omega which next to the Jag seems like its doing 100 MPG  :y

If I put a cable tie on it (unlikely, as I never seem to have any ;D), I would have told you to get a proper clip.  That said, if it was at the Essex meet (sorry, I can't remember doing it  :-[), all bets are off, as that bloody Dundee is a *BAD* influence ::)

IIRC the clip pinged off and couldn't be found hence the cable tie and yes, you probably did tell me to get a proper clip but it got forgotten in the alcoholic haze over the rest of that weekend. ::) ;D Yep, that bloody Dundee is a bad influence! ;D
