My Lab (16 months) was a bit "up-and-at-'em" over fireworks but, last night I took him to the window where a local display could be seen. He saw the lights and the bangs and I showed him that I thought they were good, but making overtly happy sounds. (I have also read that saying "hallo" every time there is a flash/bang and/or giving the pooch a treat every time there is a bang works well.)

Either way, he was most disinterested tonight.  :y :y

sad really..not a good time of year for pets...my uncle used to train his dogs (sheep dogs) to ignore bangers going off..mind you his dog chip was great as although she was a trained sheep dog he used to work on a dairy farm so she would round the cows up  :y

I use the very same tecnique with both the dogs I've had. Dino my first Weimeraner used to run to the door to be let out to watch them with me, Monty my second Weimeraner just takes them or leaves them  :y

I tried the same sort of thing with my sheppard.

First time (9 months old) he just sat there and watched  :(
He was ok until 2 years ago when some little barsteward launched a rocket at the front of my house  >:( >:(
Scared the sh*t out of us all  >:(

I don''t think he has come out of his cage on a night all week  :(

Two Labs, the yellow one was outside  with the grand kids loving it, and the chocolate one was in his bed until the food came out ;)

Bonfire night can be terrifying for some dogs. One of the the ladies who works for me has a Collie that chews the door frame when she hears fireworks. She has to tranc. her up the fook to get the poor hound through it.

Our old Lab, 10 years old, got a little bothered by some early ones, the first we have heard this year, she soon settled though........ :) :)

Fortunately my lurcher is not bothered by fireworks at all. When I had 2 yorkies, they were petrified of fireworks, so I used to put some mellow music on quite loud to largely drown the fireworks out, which worked well.  :y
