Title: Later Rad Drain Plugs
Post by: tunnie on 09 November 2011, 10:44:56
So in my 2000 year 2.2, the Rad drain plug is a bright red thing on the passenger side.

Looked under my 2002 3.2 today, no such plug, I can see what looks like a black plug, its flat with a cutout which looks big enough for a coin or screw driver to turn it.

Is this the correct valve? Looks like its been blocked off  :-\

Mine has the normal red plug. Maybe it's had an aftermarket rad. fitted?

Put a coin in the slot and see if it turns, I guess. They may just have used a different colour plastic.

Good point, did not thing if it was aftermarket. I'm leaving for WIM in about 10 mins, so decided not to touch it until i get back.

I can see releasing it is ok, but as its smooth & around there is nothing to grip on to putting it back in.... (waits for comments on that one!  ::) ;D)

Does sound like an aftermarket rad. Wonder if they tried to fix the ac as well, as that's not working iirc? Hmmm.

I bought a drain plug a couple of years ago from the dealer as a precaution when doing a coolant change and the new one from the dealer was black with the recess you described, so it could just be that the plug was changed when someone changed the coolant?

I wanted to add that the new black one i bought did have a lines cut in to help you grip it

Well worth having a spare to hand if the coolant has been neglected. I have had the 2 little O ring seals fall apart on me before now.

As said its probably an aftermarket rad.  Mines an aftermarket and has a white plug! As long as it's doing the job...  :y

Got one in September for the Astra H told by the dealer it was the same part as on the omega 93194704 trade club £1.58 + VAT.
Must say it did look the same. :y

Red drain plug now superceded by a black plug, same o-rings as on red plug but slightly different spacing.

Got an aftermarket rad on the Estate - fitted with a black plug sealing on a thick rubber seal - rad doesn't have the drain spout on the side like the OEM - on the aftermarket one you remove whole plug and it empties through the drain plug hole.

Sounds aftermarket.

PM cripple, I vaguely remember his being the same. *Think* we replaced it with red plug.
