Why are BMW and Merc number plate illuminations so bright ? >:(

Are they running an exceptionally high powered bulb system ;D or is it just something German and they want to stand out ? 8)

They are so bright where they unplug and add their indicator bulbs, so they get used  ;D ;D ;D
