Title: starter not working
Post by: vbelen4 on 14 November 2011, 11:23:47
hello,
yesterday, my omega 2.5 V6 refused to start and till now. Starter seems to try to turn just a moment, without moving the belt. Could be a fuse relay/problem or I should discard them as it reacts when key is turned? Thanks in advance.

Assuming the battery is good, do the headlights dim when starter is turning?, start by checking Battery connections, both on the battery and the cables going to the terminals, check earth return and the starter / solenoid conections. otherwise its volt meter time to start checking for any voltage drops in the chain etc.

Try starting it with the auxillary belt removed -if it starts ok don't run the engine - turn it off - as the water pump is driven by the aux belt.

Your problem then relates to seized bearings on aux belt tensioner, water pump, alternator, power steering pump or a/c compressor.  Check each pulley to see if it moves freely by hand - the one that doesn't is your problem (note bottom one is crank pulley and wont move freely by hand)
