Title: Corsa: White smoke and temp issues?
Post by: I_want_an_Omega on 16 November 2011, 13:30:38
Hi all,

Was driving the daughters Corsa (1.0 12v) back last night being followed by SWMBO.

When we got home I was advised that she could tell when I was changing up through the gears as there was a bit of white smoke from the exhaust each time.

To be fair, I was "pressing on".

Is this anything to worry about?

Although the car is new to the family it has a documented service history @ the local Vx dealer, so I know that at least it's had regular oil changes in the last 11 years and 91k.

I'm fairly sure it's suffering from an open thermostat, so was wondering if that could could contribute if the ECU also thinks the engine is cold and is over fueling. The temp gauge barely gets off the end stop and air from the heater is at best warm. I've changed the temp gauge sender but it made no difference. I'm putting a new stat at the weekend with a coolant flush and change and new header tank.

Thanks guys - Rob

I would say its just condensation due to short trips and the fact that the engine is not getting to full operating temperature,so long as you are not suffering coolant loss I wouldn't worry.
