this relates to an audi a4. had a pressure gauge rigged up to the oil filter housing to check the pressures. once warmed up and at the stated rpm oil pressure readings are correct.
the trouble is the first start of the day from stone cold the filter housing takes at least 5 seconds to read pressure.
does this mean that the pump is faulty as it is allowing the oil to run back into the sump??

Maybe. Or oil pressure relief valve don't close fully. ;)

no , spring intact and plunger free. on revving you can see the plunger dump work at 4 bar.

as soon as the pressure reaches the oil pressure/filter lower down the block, the noise disipates immediately. changing the followers would be of no benefit.

I recently delivered an A4 with similar oil pressure problems to an Audi master tech who reckoned it was going to be caused by a blocked oil pickup. "It always is on these" were his exact words. Well worth checking for.
